Jason Lee (Jay) Kjellander

Jason Lee (Jay) Kjellander, 44, of Elgin, Illinois passed away on April 28, 2015 at Loyola University Hospital in Maywood, Illinois.

He was born in Galesburg on October 17, 1970, the son of Francis Lee and Gwendolyn Marie Kjellander.

A graduate of Abingdon High School, he attended Quincy College in Quincy, Illinois, Monmouth College in Monmouth, Illinois, where he was a member of the Theta Chi Fraternity and graduated from Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois in 1995 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology and Gerontology. He was a mortgage broker for many years, and most currently served as Senior Administrations Adviser for Colorado Technical University.

Jay is survived by his parents, Francis and Gwen Kjellander of Leesburg, Florida, his brothers and sister, Jeffrey (and Nancy) Kjellander of Dekalb, Illinois, Jennifer (and Christopher) Parks of Poughkeepsie, New York, and Joseph Kjellander of Elgin, Illinois. Jay is also survived by his nieces, Jenny Kjellander, Nikki (and Tony) Morales, Allison (and Cindy) Kjellander-Cantu, and Kate Kjellander, grand-nephews Haze, Knox, and Kruz Morales, grand-niece Gwenyth Browne, and Goddaughter, Hannah Alcorn.

He played college football and was an avid sports fan. It was this love of outdoor sports and camping that Jay acquired an amazing abundance of friends that were near and dear to him.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 4 p.m., Saturday, May 2, 2015 at the American Legion Post #381 in Abingdon, Illinois. Another celebration will be held in Elgin, Illinois at a later date.

James S. (Jim) Jones



James "Jim" S. JonesJames S. (Jim) Jones 78, of Macomb, formerly of Avon, Illinois, passed away at 12:03 PM Wednesday April 29, 2015 at Wesley Village. He was born Jan. 27, 1937 in Fairfield, Iowa to Sam and Lillian (Bailey) Jones. He married Judith K. (Anderson) Jones in Birmingham, IA, Nov. 22, 1956 they shared 58 years of marriage. She survives. 

Also surviving are two sons, James J. (Jamie) Jones of Costa Mesa, CA; and Jeffrey S. (Jeff) and spouse Mary Ann (Ruff) of Naperville, IL; five grandsons, Matt (Rachel) Jones of Chesapeake, VA; Kevin Jones of Chicago, IL; Zach and Ky Jones of Bismarck, ND; Brett and Tyler Jones both of Naperville, IL; three great grandchildren, Hunter, Colton, and Aspen Jones of Chesapeake, VA; sister, Jennabelle (Melvin) Mullikin of Packwood, IA; two nephews, Rick (Kelly) Spees of Fairfield, IA; Jason Spees of Birmingham, IA; two great nephews Stetson and Sterling Spees of Fairfield, IA. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and one granddaughter, Maranda Jones. 

He grew up in Birmingham, Iowa and graduated from Birmingham High School in 1954. He served in the National Guard for 7 years in the Army Artillery Unit at Washington, IA. Jim was employed by Roberts and Dybdahl as a lumber trader for 40 years retiring in 2007. He was a past associate director of the Illinois Lumber and Material Dealers Association before retirement. Prior to that he was in retail lumber sales in Fairfield, Grand Mound, and Stanwood, IA. In Grand Mound and Stanwood he was a member and past president of the volunteer fire department. He was a past member of the Stanwood Lions Club, 50+ year member of the Avon Harmony Lodge #253 in Avon, IL, and enjoyed helping with the CHIPS Program, and a past board member and president of the Avon School District and Little Swan Lake Association. He enjoyed country music, square dancing , landscaping and the 43 years spent residing at Little Swan Lake. He was an active member of the Avon Methodist Church. 

He was a thoughtful and appreciative husband and father and was proud to watch his sons develop into successful men. He especially enjoyed attending his grandson’s special sporting events and giving their best. He was very proud of all of them. 

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday May 2, 2015 at the Avon United Methodist Church where visitation will be Friday May 1, 2015 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM with a Masonic Service at 8:00 PM. The Reverend Trish Chapman will officiate. Interment will be in the Avon Cemetery. Memorial Contributions can be made to the Avon United Methodist Church, McDonough District Hospital Hospice Program or to the Parkinson ’s Disease Fund at McDonough District Hospital. David L. Humphrey

David L. Humphrey, age 75, of Oquawka, Illinois passed away at 6:10 am on April 28, 2015 at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington, Iowa. David is the son of Frank ad Irma Stufflelbeam Humphrey and is the husband of Joan E. Lubke. David's request was to have no visitation and/or viewing and to be donated with cremation to follow. Ted G. Schooley

Teddy Grant Schooley, 81, of Galesburg, died at 1:12 p.m. Thursday, April 29, 2015 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
 
Ted was born in Richland, Iowa, March 23, 1934, son of Nelson O. and Isabel Grant Schooley.
 
He attended school in Oskaloosa and Ottumwa, Iowa.  He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on April 29, 1952, stationed in Puerto Rico and was honorably discharged on April 28, 1956
 
He married Joan Wood on June 20, 1959 at Willard St. Methodist Church in Ottumwa, IA.
 
He worked for Ottumwa Tent and Awning and joined the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad, in Ottumwa, Iowa as a Brakeman/Conductor on August 8, 1956.
 
He retired on February 1, 1998, from the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad,  in Galesburg, Illinois.
 
Ted and Joan were transferred to Galesburg, Illinois, in 1985, with the Railroad. They spent many years traveling and camping in their motorhome..
Ted is survived by his wife, Joan; Sons, Jeffrey Grant Schooley, Ottumwa, IA, Douglas  Todd (Carol) Schooley, Mesa, AZ and Michael Wood (Lisa) Schooley, Marion, IA.  Grandchildren;, Megan, Jacob, Ryan, Laura, Grant and Catherine Schooley, Courtney Webber and one Great Granddaughter, Lucy Webber.
 
Also surviving are his sisters, Judy (Gary) Steeples, Linda Jo Mackenzie and brother, Tony (Carol) Schooley. Of Ottumwa, IA
 
He was preceded in death by sisters, Jean, Janet, and Joyce and brothers Terry and Tom. and his parents.

Cleon Stufflebeem


Cleon Stufflebeem, 78, of Galesburg, died at 11:29 a.m. Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.
Cleon was born August 10, 1936 in West Grove, IA, the son of Milo and Lucille Wages Stufflebeem.  He married Daisy Horton on October 9, 1955 in Bunch, IA.  Cleon is survived by his wife, Daisy of Galesburg; three sons, Ricky (Marty) Stufflebeem, Randy (Lori) Stufflebeem, and Roger Stufflebeem all of Galesburg; two daughters, Ramona (Bobby) Temple and Ranee Stufflebeem both of Galesburg; a half brother, Mike Stufflebeem of Ottumwa, IA; a half sister, Sandra Marks of FL; and two step sisters, Peggy Stanton of Bettendorf, IA and Linda Fitzsimmons of Agency.  He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by a daughter, Rhonda Stufflebeem-Trapani on March 5, 2002; his parents; and a brother Clell Stufflebeem.
Cleon was a baseball coach in the Galesburg area for 45 years and a Boy Scout leader.  He worked for Templeton Roofing Company.  Cleon was an avid St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Bears, Iowa Hawkeyes, and NASCAR fan.
Per his wishes cremation rites will be accorded.  A visitation will be held 5-8 p.m. Monday, May 4, 2015 at Bethel Baptist Church, Galesburg.  Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at Bethel Baptist Church.  Pastor Kirk Kendall will officiate.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.  Cremation and funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.  Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.watsonthomas.com

Robert L. “Bobby” Jackson

Mr. Robert L. “Bobby” Jackson, 47, of Galesburg died at 4:52 am Monday, April 27, 2015 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.

He was born September 9, 1967 in Galesburg the son of Robert and Emma Gene Spinks Jackson. He married Elizabeth Brand in Galesburg on December 19, 1998.

Robert is survived by his “Pops”, James Blackwell of Galesburg; his children, Brandy Jackson and Robert Jackson, Jr. both of Galesburg, Robert Nathan Jackson of Burlington, Iowa, Shay Dragoo, O’Brion Allen, Treanna Allen, Cierra Brahmstedt, and Joe Williams all of Galesburg; three brothers, Rory Jackson (and Debbi), Robert (and Michelle) Sargent of Wataga, and Anthony (and Helen) Sargent of St. Paul, Minnesota; three sisters, Robyn Broadfield and Renita (and Mearon) Diggins, both of Galesburg and Laura (and Jaswick) Dyett of Grimes, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Martell Woods, Peyton Jackson, Makaylie McClaren, Hahlay, Deamiyn and Dearion Elston and Jackson Smith, several nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and his brother-in-law, Chuck Thompson. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Madilyn Jackson.

Bobby worked at Beisser Lumber in West Des Moines, Iowa for several years. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1985. It was that year Bobby was drafted out of high school to play minor league baseball for the San Francisco Giants. He was later picked to play for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Bobby was inducted in the Galesburg High School Hall of Fame in 2011.


Funeral Services are scheduled for 11:00 am Saturday, May 9, 2015 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Jerry Cato and Rev. Jon Sibley will officiate. Visitation will be 9:00-11:00 am Saturday at the chapel. Memorials may be made to Hinchliff-Pearson West Funeral Home to assist the family with funeral expenses. David Alan Walters

David Alan Walters, 61, of Galesburg, died at 6:38 a.m. Monday, April 27, 2015 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital, Galesburg.
Dave was born July 17, 1953 in Galesburg, the son of Dwight F. and Marion R. Swanson Walters.  He married Mary Helen Smith Gibbons on May 27, 1977 in Galesburg.  Dave is survived by his wife, Mary of Galesburg; a son, Mickey (Samantha Stinson) Gibbons of Galesburg; a daughter, Amy (Daniel) Westbay of Dewitt, IA; and two brothers, Steve and Rick Walters of Galesburg.  He is the proud grandpa of Marcus and Kohen Gibbons, Nolan and Dexter Westbay, Peyton, Luckas, and Liam Walters; and two special girls, Jade Powell and Dominique Wingo.  He was preceded in death by a son, Nash A. Walters on October 18, 2007; his parents, and his father and mother in law, Philip A. Smith, Sr. and Mary M. Smith. 
Dave graduated from Galesburg High School.  He worked for Butler Mfg. for 31 years, retiring in 2005.  Dave loved listening to music, watching movies and was an avid Chicago Bears football fan.  He also loved to go for rides with his wife Mary and enjoyed the shops at Bishop Hill.  Most of all, Dave loved to be with his grandchildren and family.  Dave’s family honored his life by donating his tissue to Gift of Hope. 
A celebration of life and toasts to Dave’s life will be 1-3 p.m. Saturday, May 2, 2015 at the Thomas Legacy Center at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.  Per his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for a fund to be designated at Bishop Hill or to a charity of the donor’s choice.  Expressions of sympathy may be made to the family at www.watsonthomas.com

Naoma “Marie” Bennett

Naoma “Marie” Bennett, 99, of Oneida, Illinois passed away Monday, April 27, 2015 at 9:55 A.M. at the Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, Illinois. 

Naoma was born on February 29, 1916 in Jameson, Missouri.  She married Walter L. Bennett on January 30, 1932 in Chillicothe, Missouri. 

She spent most of her life on the farm and enjoyed raising the animals and tending to her plants and flowers. She was also employed by Galesburg Mental Health where she eventually retired as a Health Care Technician. Naoma was an avid Cubs fan; she attended as many Cubs caravans as possible, collected Cubs memorabilia, and made it to spring training in Tempe, Arizona for 14 straight years.  She was able to live unassisted for 92 years; she then resided with her daughter Peggy for two years before entering the Mercer County Nursing Home. She was very proud of the fact that she was able to be the matriarch of 6 generations.

Naoma is survived by her 7 children; Eva Bainbridge of Danville, Kentucky, Norman (and Sandy) Bennett of Saratoga, Wyoming, JoAn Peterson of Wataga, Illinois, Harriet (and Carl) Ewing of Monmouth, Illinois, Bill (and Sue) Bennett of La Crosse, Wisconsin, Larry (and Melody) Bennett of Galesburg, Illinois, and Peggy (and Mike) Kraynak of Oneida, Illinois. She is also survived by 30 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 3 infant children, 1 son; Rex W. Bennett in 1986, and 2 grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 1, 2015 from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at the Hurd Hendricks Funeral Home in Oneida, Illinois.  The funeral service will follow at 11:00 A.M. at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home.  Rev.  Mr. Roger Lawrence Schoonover, 47, of Galesburg, Illinois died at 12:42 am Monday, April 27, 2015 in OSF St. Francis Medical Center Peoria, Illinois.

Adaleen I. Bell

Adaleen Irene Bell, 98, of Galesburg, died at 8:20 a.m. Monday, April 27, 2015 in Heartland Health Care, Galesburg.
Adaleen was born April 9, 1917 in Peoria, the daughter of Edward Lee and Bessie Blanche Foster Laughlin.  She married Jack W. Bell on January 20, 1946.  He preceded her in death on February 12, 1974.  Adaleen is survived by a nephew, Darrel E. (JoAnn) Allen of Kansas City, MO; four nieces, Kathy (Ron) Custer and Janet Ricketts both of Galesburg; Karen (Mike) Herting of Cary, and Carol (Mike) Danielson of Carthage, MO; and several great nieces and nephews.  Including her husband, Adaleen was preceded in death by her parents; her twin sister, Kathleen Kennedy on April 27, 2010; and two brothers, Lawrence E. Groff on February 4, 2007 and Clifford Snyder.
Adaleen was a homemaker.  She raised and bred Poodles and Pekinese dogs for many years.  Adaleen also enjoyed crocheting and working in her garden.  She also was her twin sister’s caretaker for many years.

David A. Walters

David A. Walters, 61, of Galesburg, died at 6:38 a.m. Monday, April 27, 2015 in the Emergency Room at Galesburg Cottage Hospital, Galesburg.

Nathaniel Leigh Carroll

Nathaniel Leigh Carroll, 27, of Galesburg formerly of London Mills passed away at 9:32 PM Saturday April 25, 2015 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center. He was born September 13, 1987 in Peoria, IL the son of Joanne and Shane Burnett.

He is survived by his parents, five siblings, Elizabeth (Jamie) Derry; Breanne Burnett; Eric and Chad Carroll; Kim Bowlin; one nephew Ethan, niece Emileigh, niece and special football buddy Trinity; grandmother and roomie Carol Tinder; aunts and uncles, Joy (Ron) Williams; Teresa (Jamie) Rossmiller; Roganne (Mike) Johnson; cousins, Tara (Joe) Coulter; Natalie (Darnell Brown) Doubet; Roger and Eben Rossmiller; McKayla, Sean and Madison Johnson; Dylan and Brayden Howard and Abbie Doubet. Nathaniel also leaves behind a second family Andrea Frances, the Butlers and many best friends. 

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Roger Tinder and great grandparents LeVerne and Gladys Young. 

Nathaniel was a 2007 graduate of Spoon River Valley High School. He then studied ministry at Ozark Christian College in Joplin, MO. He was an active leader in the church youth group. He was a dedicated worshiper at Summum Church. Nathaniel was an avid Chicago Bears fan and was a collector of foreign coins, movies, comic books and comic memorabilia. Nathaniel lived his life for others and is fulfilling his last wish by helping others threw his donation to Gift of Hope. 

Cremation Rites have been accorded. A celebration of life will be held from 1:00 PM until 6:00 PM Sunday May 10, 2015 at the Spoon River Valley High School Gymnasium. Harold V. “Harry” Greenwald

Harold V. “Harry” Greenwald age 73, of Knoxville, Illinois, passed away Sunday April 26, 2015 at St. Mary Medical Center following a lengthy illness.

Harry is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Audrey, brother Donald (Darla) Greenwald, one son, Robert (Barb) Greenwald of Elkhorn, Wisconsin, one daughter Kelly (Dave) Milligan of Galesburg, Illinois, six grandchildren, Jacob, Nicholas and Ian Milligan of Galesburg, Illinois and Alex and Arianna Greenwald of Bloomington, Illinois, and Andrew Greenwald of Elkhorn, Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Paul Greenwald, and his brother Kenneth Greenwald, of Sheboygan, Wisconsin.

Harry graduated from Central High School in Sheboygan, Wisconsin in 1959, and from Carroll College in Waukesha, Wisconsin. Harry worked part-time for Waukesha Transit during his senior year at college. Following graduation, he accepted a teaching position at Plymouth High School in Plymouth, Wisconsin, and taught there for thirteen years. As a teacher, Harry taught economics, political science and citizenship. Harry also was a play-by-play sports announcer for the Plymouth Panthers for many years, including announcing football games at Lambeau Field. This began his career in broadcasting working at WHBL in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, WIZZ/WLAX in Streator, Illinois and WGIL FM-98 in Galesburg, Illinois.

Harry eventually went back to his motor coach career and worked at Peoria Charter and finished his career with Galesburg Transit. His life came full circle, wanting to teach, driving a bus and “playing radio”.

He was a lifelong fan of the Milwaukee Brewers and the Green Bay Packers even to the point of painting yard markers and Lambeau Field on his blacktopped driveway. He loved his family and enjoyed traveling, watching Wisconsin sports on TV, reading about history, his cat Susie and especially telling stories.

Harry was a lifetime member of Galesburg Elks lodge #894. He attended the Grace Lutheran Church in Knoxville, Illinois and served as Lector, Usher, and a member of the Congregation Council, Property, Memorial and Cemetery Board committees.


A memorial service will be held Friday, May 1, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. with visitation from 9:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. at the Grace Lutheran Church, Knoxville, Illinois. Rev. Michel D. Marion Lee Cantwell

Marion Lee Cantwell, age 68, of Lakeland, Florida formerly of Oneida, Illinois passed away April 24, 2015 surrounded by his family and friends. 

He was born July 16, 1946 in Toulon, IL the son of Marion Fletcher Cantwell and Margaret Louise Nye Cantwell. He owned and operated Cantwell Trucking. He held the contract with ArrMaz Custom Chemical Company since 1997, making deliveries every day and on time.

In addition to his parents, Marion was preceded in death by his son: Marion William Cantwell, sister: Martha Lingwall and Niece: Judy Slagel. He is survived by his ex-wife: Ivel Mae Cantwell, daughters: Michelle Morrell (Kevin), Sherrie Cantwell and Amanda Cantwell, daughter-in-law: Lynn Cantwell nine grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.


Visitation will be held on Friday, May 1, 2015 from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes and Crematory in Oneida, Illinois. Charles F. “Chuck” Talley

Charles F. “Chuck” Talley, 73 of Monmouth, IL passed away Saturday, April 25, 2015 at his home.

Chuck was born in Monmouth, IL on May 19, 1941, the son of Ira James and Helen Louise (Parrish) Talley.  He was raised and educated in Monmouth, graduating from Monmouth High School in 1959.

Chuck married Linda L. Staff at the First Christian Church in Galesburg on July 8, 1962 and she survives.

Chuck was a Monmouth Firefighter for 20 years.  When he retired he went to work for the City of Monmouth as a Building Official, Zoning Administrator, Cemetery Sexton, Certified Pluming Inspector and Warren County Inspector.  He was employed by the City of Monmouth for 44 years.

He was a lifelong member of the First Christian Church of Monmouth. Chuck was a 36 year member and four time Past Master of the Monmouth Masonic Lodge.  He was a member and Past President of the Monmouth Kiwanis Club, Board Member for Habitat for Humanity, Relay for Life, Charter Member of the Warren County Illinois Genealogical Society and Charter Member of the Warren County Historical Society and Museum.  He was a member of the Warren County Prime Beef Festival and served as the Grand Marshall in 2012.  Chuck was a 26 year member of the Monmouth/Warren County Auxiliary Police, most of those years as Captain.

Survivors include his wife; his daughter, Debra L. (Steve) Tubbs of South Bend, IN; son, Jeffrey C. (Jenny) Talley of Galesburg; granddaughter, Kameryn D. Talley of New Mexico.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Beverly A. Woods

Beverly A. Woods, 78, of Monmouth passed away at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, April 25, 2015 at her home.

She was born May 17, 1936 in Peoria, IL the daughter of Clarence and Virginia (McConnell) Trotter.  She was raised and educated in Monmouth, graduating from Monmouth High School in 1954. 

Bev married Charles N. Woods in Galesburg in 1965 and he died in 1999.

Bev was the office manager for Woods- Harrison Ford in Monmouth for several years before retiring.

She was a member of the Monmouth Country Club and the Ladies Golf League.  She was an avid golfer.  She not only loved playing golf, where she won many City Golf Championships and County Club Championships, she also enjoyed watching golf. Bev was also a NASCAR fan.

Survivors include her brother, Gary Trotter of Monmouth.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.


Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth.  Burial will be in Warren County Memorial Park, Monmouth.  Friends may call Wednesday at the funeral home where her family will be present from 1:30 p.m.  until the time of the services. Mark E. Brubaker

Mark E. Brubaker, 61, of Galesburg, died suddenly at 9:41 p.m. Saturday, April 25, 2015 in the Emergency Room at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.
Mark was born March 24, 1954 in Galesburg, the son of Robert Eugene and Patricia Anne Flynn Brubaker.  Mark married Mary Ann Blake on April 27, 1973 in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Galesburg.  Mark is survived by his wife, Mary of Galesburg; one son, Adam E. (Shauna) Brubaker of Abingdon; two daughters, Amy (Chad) Warren and Angie (Jim) Noonan both of Galesburg; and one sister, Mary Ann (Donald) Gummerson of Galesburg.  He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Kaydin (Cheyenne) Brubaker, Kerstyn Campbell, Traye Sharp, Reas Brubaker, Pryce Brubaker, Emily Warren, Molly Warren, and Ava Jane Noonan; and a great grandson due in July.  He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mark graduated from Galesburg High School.  He worked at Butler Mfg. for 20 years, retiring in 1992.  Mark enjoyed weightlifting.  He loved to spend time with his children and grandchildren.  Mark always enjoyed helping people and continued his caring nature by being a tissue donor.
Per his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded.  A celebration of life will be held 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 24, 2015 at the Thomas Legacy Center at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.  Burial of cremated remains will be at a later date in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Galesburg.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for a charity to be designated.  Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.  Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.watsonthomas.com

Henrietta Palmer

Mrs. Henrietta Palmer, 94, of Stronghurst, IL passed away Saturday April 25, 2015 at her home. She was born February 4, 1921 near Downing, MO the daughter of Orville and Julia Crowder Jackson. On February 3, 1946 she married Carson "Ed" Palmer at the Christian Church in Keokuk, IA. He preceded her in death on September 8, 1997.

Prior to her marriage Mrs. Palmer worked as a secretary in Lancaster, MO and at Keokuk Electro-Metals in Keokuk, IA. She was a member of the Lomax Christian Church and she also attended the Stronghurst Christian Church. She was also a member of the Henderson County Home Extension, and the Community Senior Citizens in Stronghurst. She was an avid reader and enjoyed stitching, and gardening. She loved her family and enjoyed being with all of them, especially her great-grandchildren.

Survivors include three daughters, Susan (Lyman) Schar of Monmouth, IL, Sandra (Brad) Harlacher of West Burlington, IA, Sally (Monty) Waddell of Stronghurst, six grandchildren, Ben Schar, Megan Grandone, Wesley and Jared Harlacher, Kerri Hart, and Kim Waddell, ten great-grandchildren, Carson, Jackson and Max Schar, Jacob, Emily and Sophia Grandone, Annie and Claire Hart, and Ruby and Neva Harlacher. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sisters and four brothers.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst, IL with Steve Minkler and Raymond McLaren officiating. Burial will be in the Stronghurst Cemetery, Stronghurst, IL. Andrew James Williams

Andrew James Williams, the infant son of Heather Chambers and Brian Williams of Monmouth, Illinois; was delivered stillborn on April 23, 2015 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital in Galesburg, Illinois at 4:59 pm.

He is the grandson of Tim and Shelly Jones and grandfather Bruce Reimolds and Randy Chambers, all of Monmouth, Illinois. There are two sisters and two brothers also surviving. Hubert Lee Rylander

Hubert Lee Rylander, age 80, of Galva, Illinois formerly of Oneida, Illinois, Thursday, April 23, 2015 at his home in Galva, Illinois.

He was born on July 19, 1934 in Galesburg, Illinois, the son of Clell V. and Dora Lofgren Rylander. He attended Altona grade school and graduated from R.O.V.A. Jr. High and High School in 1952. He married Catherine “Kay” Cox on November 6, 1954.

Surviving is his wife Kay of Galva, Illinois; a daughter, Nancy (Bob) Hroziencik of Oneida, Illinois; two sons, Gregory (Pamela) Rylander, Rockwell, Texas and Joel Rylander of Galva, Illinois. Six grandchildren, Dr. Lucas (Melanie) Rylander of Denver Colorado, Lisa (Steve Binash) Rylander of El Paso, Texas, Joshua Rylander of Oneida, Illinois, Karlee Rylander of Rockwell, Texas, Kate (Michael) Hagedorn of Oneida, Illinois, Kevin (Tara) Hroziencick of Oneida, Illinois; four great grandchildren, Keegan and Braxton Rylander and Wyatt and Owen Hagedorn and he was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Merrill, Dale, and Carl Rylander.

He farmed in the Oneida and Altona area most of his life until he retired. He coached Altona little league for many years, was a member of the United Church (Methodist) in Oneida, member and past president of the former Altona Lions Club in Altona, Illinois.

Jeffrey H. McMaster

Jeffrey H. McMaster, 71, of Monmouth, IL died at 11:43 p.m. Thursday, April 23, 2015 at OSF Holy Family Medical Center, Monmouth.

He was born July 26, 1943 in Monmouth, The son of Harold Mansker and Martha Jane (Smith) McMaster.  He was raised and educated in Monmouth, graduating from Monmouth High School in 1962.

Jeffrey married Jennifer Broseker in Crescent City, CA, on May 6, 2000 and she survives.
Jeffrey served with the United States Air Force for 20 years.  He also was a Correctional Officer for 13 years at the Pelican Bay State Prison in Crescent City, CA.  before moving back to Monmouth in 2002.  He later owned and operated JMAC Small Engine Repair.

He loved Western movies, especially John Wayne movies.  He also enjoyed woodworking and hot rods.  Jeffrey was an animal lover, including his dogs Snowball and Zelda. Jeffrey was a very generous and caring person who loved his family.

Survivors include his wife; his children, Patrick McMaster and Lorrita Butler both of Yuma, CA, Tammy (Anthony) Baldree of Crescent City, CA, Guy Peres of Sacramento, CA, Erik Ferguson of Monmouth and Darren (Jessica) Ferguson of Monmouth; 10 grandchildren; 1 brother, Bill (Donna) Hallam of Monmouth; 2 nieces, Kristin Wilson and Kim Hallam.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Edward Skinner

Edward A. Skinner, 87, of Monmouth died at 6:30 a.m. Friday, April 24, 2015 at the Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville, I L.

Eddie, known by many names, was born to Edward P. Skinner and Ada G. Chambers on September 29, 1927 in Monmouth, IL.  He was raised and educated in Monmouth, graduating from Monmouth High School in 1947.  He later attended Browns Business College in Galesburg before joining the United States Air Force
Ed married Melba J. Brown in Monmouth on November 9, 1950 and she survives.
He worked at John Deer Foundry (Parts Distribution, Milan, IL) for 28 ½ years until retiring in 1990.  He was a member of many organizations within the community such as Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Knights of Columbus, The American Legion, Sam Skinner Post, Thunder-Steppers, and The Jokers Club. Aside from all of his community volunteering, Eddie loved having his own fun too such as: kidding his loved ones, joking with his card buddies, fishing, Busters Bombers, Horseshoes, calling for BINGO “Golden Voice”, and was the  number 1 “CHAIR FAN” for the 49ers from all the way in Illinois. He was also respected and loved by all!
He is survived by his loving wife Melba, his daughters, Mary, Celeste, Celinda (Vincent), and Emily (Timothy), and his sons, Gregory and Brian. Eddie has 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 1 great great-grandchild.
Eddie was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Charles, Owen and Wallace.

Mass of the Christian Burial followed by Military honors will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 2, 2015 at Immaculate Conception Church, Monmouth. Richard W. Norma E. Brown

Norma E. Brown, 91, of Galesburg, died at 6:40 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, 2015 in Heartland Health Care Center.

She was born July 30, 1923 in Little York, Illinois the daughter of Grover C. and Mary Jane (Everhart) Icenogle.  She married Keith N. Brown on February 11, 1944 in Chicago.  He preceded her in death on September 28, 2012.

She is survived by a daughter, Linda K. Ferry of Henderson, Illinois; three grandchildren, Michelle L. (and Craig Genisio) McGee of Woodhull, Illinois, Kevin N. (and A.J.) Ferry of Monmouth, Illinois, and Brent C. (and Liz) Ferry of Austin, Texas; seven great grandchildren; and a brother, Marion W. Icenogle of Fayetteville, Arkansas.  In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, and five sisters.

Norma worked at the former Admiral Manufacturing in Galesburg for 20 years, retiring in 1985.  After retiring, Norma and Keith moved to Shell Knob, Missouri, where she was a charter member of F.O.E. #4155.  They returned to the Galesburg area in 2006.  Norma graduated from Plymouth High School in 1940.  She served in the United States Navy during World War II, stationed in San Diego.

Norma enjoyed reading, riverboat gambling, and going to Florida every January

Cremation will be accorded.  Graveside memorial service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, 2015 in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens.  Rev. Patricia Louise Westerdale

Patricia Louise Westerdale, 86, Altona died Tuesday morning, April 21, at UnityPoint Methodist Hospital, Peoria, Illinois.

Patricia was born August 11, 1928 in Orlando, Florida, the daughter of Joseph C. and Nina Faris Payne.  Patricia met her husband, Charles Westerdale, while attending the University of Illinois.  They were married August 21, 1948 in Danville, Illinois. 

Patricia is survived by her two sons, C. Richard (Cindy) of Haslet, Texas, and C. Joseph of Centennial, Colorado; two daughters, Sara (Patrick) Nelson of Altona, Illinois and Alice (Tim) Eller of Fort Collins, Colorado; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by three sisters, Rachel (John) Jakes of Jacksonville, Florida, Jenny (Luther) Erickson of Grinnell, Iowa, and Mary (Robert) Krisko of Charlotte, North Carolina.  She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Joseph C.  and William Payne.

Patricia farmed with her husband Charles in Walnut Grove for many years.  Upon retirement from farming, she returned to finish her college degree at Western Illinois University.  She then worked at May Company and LaSalle Electronics as a bookkeeper.

Patricia volunteered at the Altona Grade School where she loved teaching computers skills to the children and staff.  She also was webmaster for the SeniorNet website.  She continued to volunteer until recently at the Galesburg Public Library.

Patricia has donated her body to science to the University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa.  A memorial service is being planned for 4:00 P.M., Saturday, May 9, 2015 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Altona, Illinois, with Rev. Tim Anderson officiating. In lieu of flowers may be made in Patricia’s memory to the American Cancer Society or to the Immanuel Lutheran Church. Gary N. Osborne Sr.

Gary N. Osborne Sr., 73 of Abingdon, died Sunday, April 19, 2015 at the Abingdon Care Center in Abingdon, Illinois.
He was born on December 16, 1941 in Cave-In-Rock, Illinois, the son of Roy Ivan and Lexie Dixon Osborne.
Gary is survived by his children, Beverly Ann Osborne (Patricia K. Tracy-Osborne - mother) of Galesburg, Illinois, Gary N. Osborne Jr. (Michele Roller) (Sharon M. Johnson Osborne Swank - mother) of Abingdon, Illinois and Shelley (Trenton) Bailey (Sharon M. Johnson Osborne Swank - mother) of Abingdon, Illinois. His siblings, Dale Osborne of Carmi, Illinois, Loretta Castleberry of Carmi, Illinois, Lanita Bartley of Carmi, Illinois. Grandchildren, Matthew Osborne of Abingdon, Illinois, Zachery Osborne of Rock Island, Illinois, Colten Osborne of Abingdon, Illinois, Ashley Osborne of Michigan, Shaquon Davis of Moline, Illinois and Shamara “Moo Moo” Sargent of Galesburg, Illinois. One great-granddaughter, Kaylee Johnson of Michigan. Special thanks to a life-long friend, Mamie “Mick” West of Galesburg, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Arthur, William, Lowell and twin brother Larry Sr, two sets of twin daughters Sherry Lynn and Terry Lynn (Patricia K. Tracy-Osborne - mother), Sheryl Maxine and Sheila Marie (Sharon M. Johnson Osborne Swank - mother).
Gary worked as a bus driver for Galesburg Community Unit School District #205 and for Galesburg Transit.  He also worked for the former Admiral Manufacturing Company and Abingdon Pottery.
Gary was a lifetime member of the Midwest Western Country Music Association. He collected kerosene lamps, and enjoyed drinking coffee, music and watching wrestling. He was a guitar player, and played with bands, including the String Busters, Country Habits, Still Water, Red Boughton and Golden Rockets around the Galesburg and Carmi area.

Jack L. Brodine

Jack L. Brodine, age 96, of Knoxville, died at  3:33 A.M., Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at his home surrounded by his children, Kim and Jerry. 
He was born on February 26, 1919 in Galesburg, Illinois, the son of Ernest and Pauline Johnson Brodine.  He grew up in “Monkeytown” neighborhood, a Swedish section of Galesburg.
Jack graduated in 1937 from Galesburg High School.
He married Rachel Clayburg in January, 1943.  She preceded him in death in 2000.
Jack is survived by his children, Jerry (Karen) Brodine of Galesburg, Illinois and Kim Reynolds, Kewanee, Illinois; four grandchildren:  Katie and Jack Reynolds of Kewanee, Illinois, Doug (Lisa) Brodine and Austin of Laura, Illinois and Dan (Shelly) Brodine of Elmwood, Illinois.  One brother survives, Bob Brodine of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania.
He was   preceded in death by his wife, son, Larry of Dunlap, parents and one brother and two sisters-in-law, Wayne (Jean) Brodine and Mary Ann Brodine. 
Jack was a wholesale grocery salesman with WA Jordan, then Brown Specialty Co.  His sales routes covered most of central Illinois.
Jack served in WW II, from November 1942 – February 1946 with the Army Air Corps in 482nd Bombardment Squadron on Tiurain and Tinnian.  He serviced the Enola Gay on her return flight.
Jack was proud to be included in the 2014 Greater Peoria Honor Flight to Washington D.C.  His son, Jerry accompanied him on this trip.
A visitation will be held 9:30 A.M. – 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at Grace Lutheran Church, Knoxville, Illinois.  A memorial service will follow at 11:00 A.M. Rev. Patricia Louise Westerdale

Patricia Louise Westerdale, age 86, of Altona, Illinois died at 2:50 A.M. on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at UnityPoint Methodist Hospital, Peoria, Illinois.

Martin T. “Marty” Touchette

Martin T. “Marty” Touchette, 48, of Monmouth, passed away at 10:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 21, 2015 in Galesburg, IL.



He was born May 31, 1966 in Garden City, MI, the son of Frank and Barbara (Archibald) Touchette.  He was raised and educated in Grand Rapids, MI where he graduated from Grand Rapids Christian High School in 1984.  He later earned his Associates Degree from Davenport College in Grand Rapids, both his Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Sports Management in 2004from Western Illinois University, Macomb, IL.



Marty married Lynnae Bouterse in Moline, MI on Sept. 17, 1988 and she survives.



Marty worked as the Children’s Administrator Warren Achievement, the Monmouth Review Atlas as the Sports Editor and later the Editor, Special Olympics Sports Director and recently as a substitute teacher in local schools.



He was an avid University of Michigan sports fan, especially the Wolverine Football team.  He was an avid animal lover and co-founder of the Western Illinois Animal Rescue.  He was also a staunch Democrat, who loved to debate.



Survivors include his wife, Lynnae of Monmouth; mother-in-law Linda Bouterse of Moline, MI, brother-in-law John (Michelle) Bouterse of Wayland, MI, sister-in-law Julie (Rick) Kind of Allegan, MI, nieces; Catherine Touchette of Richmond, VA, Rachel Bouterse and Laura Bouterse both of Wayland, MI, Johanna King of Allegan, MI; nephews, Christ Touchette and David Touchette both of Richmond, VA, JR Bouterse of Wayland, MI, and Robert King of Allegan, MI. 



He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Mike Touchette and Mark Touchette, and father-in-law John Bouterse, Jr.
