Kenneth W. Knox

Kenneth W. Knox age 75, of East Galesburg, Illinois died at 1:21 A.M. on Friday, March 11, 2016 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, Illinois.

He was born on June 22, 1940 in Waukegan, Illinois the son of Kenneth S. and Louise G. Gehl Knox. He attended and graduated from Galesburg High School in 1958. He married Marilyn Miller in 1966. He then, married Mary Wiggins on October 24, 1981 in Macomb, Illinois.

Surviving is his wife Mary Knox of East Galesburg, Illinois; three daughters: Susan (Bill) Jones of Colchester, Illinois, Kimberly Gaines of Wataga, Illinois, Laura (Bill) Henson of Henderson, Illinois; two sons: Kenneth R. (Cara Brown) Knox of Lake Ozark, Missouri and Richard (Jody) Knox of Elgin, Illinois; fifteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren; one sister: Patricia “Pat” Williams of Torrance, California; one brother, Donald A. (Nancy) Knox of Mills, Washington; two nieces, Julia (Chris) Diederich of St. Largo, Florida and Melissa (Michael) Knox-Blake of Seattle, Washington; two nephews, Justin Szewczyk of Macomb, Illinois and Jason Szewczyk of Madison, Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his parents.

He worked for the former Admiral of Galesburg, Illinois, then worked for 35 years for local phone company, starting with Interstate, Sprint, Centel, Gallatin River Communication, Frontier, then Century Link.

He served in the United States Air Force from Sept. 29, 1959 to September 27, 1963 and was a member of the Harry Philblad American Legion Post #749 of Knoxville, Illinois. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal Fan.


The visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home in Knoxville, Illinois, with Military Rites conducted by the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #249 following the visitation. Crematon Rites will be accorded. Private inurnment will be held at a later date.
