Mrs. R. Virginia Renwick Finney
Tillman, 97, of Kewanee, Illinois formerly of Galesburg, Illinois died at 6:07
am Friday, March 11, 2016 in Kewanee Care Center, Kewanee, Illinois.
She was born February 26,
1919 in Williamsfield, Illinois the daughter of Bruce W. and Florence E.
Kauffman Renwick. She married Verne Finney in 1937 in Davenport, Iowa. He
preceded her in death in 1991. She later married Harry Tillman on June 3, 1998
in Maquon, Illinois.
She is survived by her
husband; her son, Jeffrey L. and Kaye Finney of Kewanee; her daughter, Jeralyn
A. and Rev. Thomas Bye of Pentwater, Michigan; six grandchildren, Ronald
Finney, Gregory and Christine Finney, Troy and LaVonne Finney all of Kewanee,
Michael Finney of Ohio, Erika and Jim Sheridan of Chicago, Maryann and Ned
Storer of North Carolina and nine great grandchildren, Anna, Schae, Gracelyn,
Sara, Ayden, Malarie, Sophia, Eddie and Samantha and numerous nieces and
nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, five brothers,
Harold, Earl, Richard, Donald and Dale and three sisters, Pearl, Faye and
Gladys.
Virginia worked as the
secretary at Butler Manufacturing Company in the production office during WWII
for 9 years. She was a member and worked as the Secretary of Education at First
United Methodist Church for 14 years, retiring in 1980. During her employment
at First United Methodist Church, she assisted in setting up a church library
and served as librarian. She was also instrumental in helping set up the
libraries at First Christian Church and Faith United Methodist Church. Virginia
became a member of the Faith United Methodist Church in 1982, and served in
many capacities, including Methodist Women’s Circles. She graduated from
Williamsfield High School in 1936. She was a past member of the American Legion
Post #285 and the VFW Auxiliary #2257.
Funeral Services are
scheduled for 1:00 pm Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West
Galesburg Chapel Rev. Thomas Bye will officiate. Visitation will be from 12:00
pm Noon-1:00 pm Wednesday at the chapel. Burial will be in Maquon Cemetery.
