Ruth E. Mitchell

Ruth E. Mitchell, age 82, of Monmouth, Illinois; passed away at 10:30 pm on Friday, March 11, 2016 at the Monmouth Nursing Home. Ruth was born on February 25, 1934 in Canton, Illinois and is the daughter of John K. and Dorothy Bentzel Johnson. She was raised in Canton, IL where she attended schools and graduated from Canton High School with the Class of 1952. She then attended and graduated the Graham Hospital School of Nursing where she earned her certification as a registered nurse. Ruth married J. Thomas Mitchell on December 18, 1955 in Canton, Illinois and he is surviving. Ruth worked as a nurse at the LaMoine Christian Nursing Home in Roseville, IL for 15 years. She attended Heritage United Presbyterian Church in Monmouth, Illinois. She is survived by her husband, Tom of Monmouth, IL and two sons, Todd (Tammy) Mitchell of Monmouth, Illinois and Guy Mitchell of Monmouth, Illinois, one grandson, Lance, of Chicago, Illinois. Her sisters, Dorothy Eskridge of Canton, Illinois and her brother, John Johnson of Aurora, Illinois, also survive. She is preceded in her death by her parents and one sister.

A funeral service is planned for 11:00 am on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. Her family plans to receive friends from the hours of 10:00-11:00 am prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at Center Grove Cemetery in Kirkwood, Illinois.
