James W. Peoples, Sr. "Folks", age 79, of East Moline, Illinois, passed away on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at his residence. He was born on December 7, 1936 in Monmouth, IL, to Leo Montgomery and Turrie (Guthrie) Peoples. On May 29, 1965, James married Barbara Jean Nickerson and she is surviving. James worked for John Deere Parts Distribution Services in Milan, IL, retiring in 1995 after 30 years of service. He was a member of St. James A.M.E. Church in Monmouth, IL. He was ordained as a Deacon in 2007 by the Second Baptist Church in Kankakee, IL. James was an original member of the "Thunder Steps" Drill Team. He was an avid golfer and loved watching all sports. He also enjoyed listening to Jazz. He loved and cherished his family and friends. James is survived by his wife Barbara, two sons; James W. (Belinda) Peoples, Jr. of Kankakee, IL and Rollin M. (Felicia) of San Diego, CA, three daughters; Turrie J. Peoples of Chesapeake, VA, DeShawn (Sheldon) Lukowski of Sacramento, CA, and Deeadra Peoples of Davenport, IA, twelve grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and seven brothers and sisters.
A funeral service will be held at Noon on Friday, April 22, 2016 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. His family will receive friends from 10:30-Noon prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at Monmouth Cemetery. A memorial fund is being established and will be announced at a later date.
