Born
September 10, 1955 in Galesburg, the daughter of Eugene Arnold Johnson
and Sallye Ann Dunlap Johnson, she married Thomas Wherley on August 3,
1974 in Abingdon. She later married Steve Larson on July 10, 1988 in
Peoria. Paula had a love for nature and life. She loved her family. She
gave so much of herself to those she touched that the void left behind
is immeasurable. She is survived by her loving husband of nearly 29
years, Steve; one son, Nicholas (Jennifer) Wherley of Tolono; one
daughter, Angela (Mike) Perry of Abingdon; four granddaughters, Cheyanne
Dierickx, Camryn Dierickx, Carly Perry, and Grace Wherley, and one
grandson, Jackson Wherley; her mother and stepfather, Sallye and Edgar
Wade of Galesburg; one stepson, Eric Larson of Troy, Ohio; one
step-grandson, Jaxyn Larson; one brother; Gregg Johnson of rural St.
Augustine; three step-sisters, Sharon (Willie) Urban of Lakemoor,
Deborah (Larry) Borchardt of Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, and Karen
(Leroy) Berndt of Genoa City, Wisconsin; and her two poodles, Sugar and
Spice. She was preceded in death by her father and her grandparents.
After graduating from Abingdon High School in 1973, Paula attended and
graduated from Carl Sandburg College in 1974. She enjoyed a successful
career as a Licensed Practical Nurse for over 40 years including working
for EviCore Healthcare as a home-based, clinical reviewer the past 12
years. Paula has also resided in Indianapolis, Indiana, Panama City
Beach, Florida, and Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was baptized at the
Abingdon Christian Church and has attended Cherry Hills Baptist Church
in Springfield the past 4 years.
As
Paula requested, cremation will be accorded. To honor and remember
Paula, family and friends are invited to join the family for A
Celebration of Life beginning at 1 p.m., Saturday, January 28, 2017 at
the Abingdon United Methodist Church. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon
Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
