She
was born May 25, 1938 in Galesburg, the daughter of Doyle and Frieda
Thurman Burton. She married Ernie Watters in 1956 and they later
divorced in 1985 after 28 ½ years of marriage.
Carol
is survived by her children, Jeff (Ruth Fortune) Watters of Abingdon
and Dodie (Watters) Townsend of Abingdon; five grandchildren, Lacy,
Reggie, Ashley, Ozzy and Taryn; three great-grandchildren, Kaelyn, Wyatt
and Ryker; one sister, Shirley (Richard) Nelson of Springfield; and
nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her former husband, her
brother, Richard Burton, her son-in-law, Dave Townsend, one nephew and
one great-nephew.
She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1956. She was a cook at
the Abingdon school cafeteria for 35 years, retiring on January 3,
2005. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan and loved going to their
games with family. She also loved to travel, go to movies, take long
walks, listen to music, go swimming and she especially enjoyed spending
the holidays together with her family. Her grandkids and
great-grandkids were very special to her.
As she requested, cremation will be accorded. To celebrate her life,
her family will receive relatives and friends from Noon to 2 p.m.
Saturday, February 11, 2017 at the Abingdon American Legion Post #381.
Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is assisting the family with
arrangements.
