Martha C. “Marty” Branch



Mrs. Martha C. “Marty” Branch, 74, of Galesburg, Illinois, died peacefully at 12:50 p.m. Friday, September 25, 2015 at Unity Point Methodist Hospital in Peoria, Illinois

She was born October 8, 1940 in Galesburg to Floyd and Violet Johnson Gustafson. She married James Roche in 1960. She later married Gary “Turp” Branch August 25, 1972 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death November 18, 2000.

Surviving is a son, Jeff (and Jennifer) Roche of Morton, Illinois; a daughter, Chris (and Jim) McNally of Burr Ridge, Illinois; two step sons, Jeff (and Jamie) Petersen of West Point, Iowa and Brad (and Jackie) Petersen of McCormick, South Carolina; two sisters, Ruth Atwood of South Beloit, Illinois and Mary (and Ron) Spring of Galesburg; two step sisters, Myrna (and Merritt) Johnson of Wataga, Illinois and Maureen (and Larry) Braden of Mapleton, Illinois; eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; a great-great grandchild; and her special friend, Raymond Pheiffer of Galesburg. She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter-in-law, Kim Peterson; her step mother, Maxine Essex Gustafson; a step brother, Sonny Essex; and a brother-in-law, Don Atwood.

Marty worked in production control for Butler Manufacturing Company in Galesburg for 42 years and retired December 1, 2002. She attended a one room schoolhouse in Appleton, Illinois through 6th grade. She later graduated from Knoxville High School in 1958. She also attended Brown’s Business College in Galesburg. She enjoyed the outdoors, doing yard work, and golfing.

Cremation will be accorded. A celebration of her life will be 2 p.m. Thursday, October 8, 2015 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Doug Johnson will officiate. Barbara Sue Ehler Leafgreen


 
Barbara Sue Ehler Leafgreen, 77, of Rio, died at 10:42 p.m. Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at home.
Barb was born June 4, 1938 in Tamaroa, IL the daughter of Charles Leslie and Virginia Dare (Dennis) Ehler.  She married Harvey Leroy Leafgreen on September 14, 1957 at the Rio Presbyterian Church in Rio, IL.  Barb is survived by her husband, Harvey of Rio; one son, Darrell (Keely) Leafgrean of Rio; a brother, Leslie Ehler of Knoxville; a sister, Lolly (Rodney) Swanson of Rio; and a daughter-in-law, Becky Leafgreen, Galesburg.  She is also survived by three grandchildren, Jacob (LeeAnna) Leafgreen, Cody Leafgreen, and Amanda Leafgreen; four step grandchildren, Amanda (Adam) Main, Melanie (Levi) Bloss, Andy Zander, and Geoff Baughman, and four great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, William Leafgreen on September 2, 2015 and a great granddaughter, Aleigha Bloss on November 23, 2013.
Barb worked for many years at F & M Bank and retired from Wells Fargo Bank in 2000.  She loved to read and collect dolls and pigs.  She and Harvey enjoyed travelling throughout the United States.  Barb was a longtime member of Rio Presbyterian Church.
Cremation rites will be accorded.  Private family services will be held Sunday, October 3rd.  There will be no visitation.  Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.  Memorials may be made to the family for a fund to be designated at a later date.  Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.watsonthomas.com

Lana Jean Swing


 
Lana Jean Swing, 54, of Galesburg, died at 9:45 p.m. Monday, September 28, 2015 in the emergency room at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
Lana was born September 22, 1961 in Moline, the daughter of Paul Roger Senn and Linda Lou Woodworth.  She married Charles A. Griffin on May 23, 1981.  They had two children, Hope Lynn (Adam) Neal of Monmouth and Martin (Signe) Griffin of Denmark.  He preceded her in death on September 11, 1996.  She later married Donald R. Swing on December 5, 1998.  Lana gained custody of her nephew, Journey Senn whom she was raising.  Lana is also survived by two additional nephews and two nieces;  her parents, Paul R. Senn and Linda Groom both of Galesburg; one brother, Roger A. Senn of Moline; and  four grandchildren, Haylee Neal, Liam Neal, Alva Griffin, and Levi Griffin. 
Lana graduated from Blackhawk College with a degree in nursing.  Lana worked as a Registered Nurse for many years in the Galesburg area, including Cottage Hospital, Marigold Health Care, Heartland Health Care, Galesburg Terrace, and Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Geneseo.    Recently, Lana was working on obtaining her Master’s Degree. 
Lana enjoyed antiques, especially Victorian furniture.  She also worked as Mary Kay Consultant for a time.  Lana loved attending church and was active for many years at the Moline Gospel Temple and Calvary Assembly of God where she taught Sunday school and helped with women’s ministries.    She enjoyed going on walks and loved her family deeply.  Lana loved to have tea parties with her grandchildren.   She became a nurse because she loved helping people and will always be remembered for her kind and gentle bedside manner with her patients. 
Cremation rites will be accorded.  Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, October 2, 2015 at the First Church of the Open Bible.  A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m.  Pastor Bob Malone will officiate.  Memorials may be made to the family.  Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.  Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.watsonthomas.com

Jack E. Fisher

Jack E. Fisher, age 85, of Knoxville, Illinois died on Monday, September 28, 2015 at the Knox County Nursing Home in Knoxville, Illinois.

He was born on February 20, 1930 in Galesburg, Illinois the son of James and Marian Lundquist Fisher. He was married in Palmyra, Missouri to Darlene DeEtta Brokaw for sixty-four years on September 20, 1951.

Surviving is his wife, Darlene Fisher of Knoxville, Illinois; two sons, Jack (Kathy) Fisher of Knoxville, Illinois and Dave (Jill) Fisher of Abingdon, Illinois; three grand-daughters, Lauren (Alex) Humes of Chicago, Illinois, Lindsey Fisher of Galesburg, Illinois, and Jenna Fisher of Knoxville, Illinois; one great grandson, Max. Also surviving is one brother, Fred Fisher of Galesburg, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Beverly Jo Venard.

He was a supervisor for Dick Blick in Galesburg, Illinois for 29 years, retiring in 1988. He enjoyed fishing, golfing and coin collecting. He served in the United States Air Force as a mechanic during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Harry Philblad American Post #729 of Knoxville, Illinois. He was of the Methodist Faith.

Mary Ann Olson, 79, of Galesburg, IL , died at 6:44 p.m. Monday, September 28, 2015 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Emergency Room.

Genevieve D. McLauglin

Genevieve D. McLaughlin, 90, of Omaha, NE died Sunday, September 27, 2015 at Remington Heights, Omaha, NE.


Genevieve was born on June 27, 1925 in Henderson, IL the daughter of Thomas and Grayce (Murray) Shea. She married James E. McLaughlin on October 5, 1948 in St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Wataga. He preceded her in death, also on September 27 th in 1981. Genevieve is survived by two sons, Daniel M. McLaughlin of Curtice, OH and Patrick T. (Virgie) McLaughlin of Skokie, IL; two daughters, Susan M. (Derald) Peters of Omaha, NE and Therese A. (Jeffry) Huffman of Minot ,ND; 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Michael F. (Sherrol) Shea and two sisters, Anne McClure and Alice Stablein. Along with her husband, Genevieve was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Donald “Doc” Shea and sisters, Margaret Shea, Mary Jeanne Shea, Kathleen Roach.

Genevieve worked as a bookkeeper for many years at Thermogas Co in Galesburg.

Visitation will be from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, October 1, 2015 at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Dorothy E. Miller

Dorothy E. Miller, 91, of Galesburg, passed away at 8:17 a.m. Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at home.

She was born November 5, 1923, in Kewanee, the daughter of Felix A. and Mabel (Celander) Kirby. She married B. Jack Miller on August 17, 1947 in Kewanee. He preceded her in death on October 21, 1994.

She is survived by two daughters, Jane (and Mike) Sands of Converse, Texas and Nancy McGill of Galesburg; a sister, Ruthann (and Eugene) Duke of Lake City, Florida; a sister-in-law, Ann Kirby of Forest Hills, New York; a brother-in-law, Thomas Rohwer of Austin, Texas; a step grandson, Hunter Sands; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death her parents; a brother, William “Bill” Kirby; and two sisters, Viola Haley and Marjorie Rohwer.

Dorothy was valedictorian of the great class of 1941 at Kewanee High School and attended Western Illinois University. She worked at Kewanee Boiler Corporation for 10 years, was a stay at home mom for 18 years, and then was secretary at Tucker-Swanson Realtors for 20 years, retiring in 1990.

A longtime member of First Baptist Church, she sang in the choir, was church clerk, and an officer in the American Baptist Women. She also volunteered at the Cottage Hospital Gift Shop for many years and enjoyed being a member of The Study Club of Galesburg.

Her special joys were being with family and friends, her coffee group, reading, traveling, walking, especially in earlier years with her “walking partners”, and her beloved cat, Buddy.

Visitation will be noon to 1:45 p.m. Friday, October 2, 2015 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Graveside service will follow at 2 p.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery. Rev. Juan Jose Guzman Sr.

Juan Jose Guzman Sr., 68, of Galesburg, died at 4:10 p.m. Monday, September 28, 2015 in OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

He was born April 10, 1947 in Allende, Coah, Mexico, the son of Juan Jose and Eva (Aguillera) Guzman. He married Frances Ann Maciel on November 20, 1968 in Galesburg. She preceded him in death June 13, 2002.

He is survived by a son, Juan Jose Guzman Jr. of Galesburg; two brothers, Jesus (and Martha) Guzman of Galesburg and Hector (and Carolina) Guzman of Eagle Pass, Texas; three sisters, Arhelia (and David) Vasquez, Yolanda (and Pedro) Reyes, and Lola (and Oscar) Castillo, all of Allende, Coah, Mexico; a sister-in-law, Chila Guzman, also of Allende; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Rumaldo Guzman.

Juan was a core worker first at Iowa Malleable for 25 years and then for Aluminum Castings for 20 years. He was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Juan was also a member of the Moose Lodge.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, October 1, 2015 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel, followed by a prayer service at 7 p.m. Funeral mass will be 2 p.m. Friday, October 2, 2015 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church with Rev. Helen E. Goble

Helen E. Goble, age 95 of rural Dallas City, Illinois passed away at 9:05 a.m. Sunday September 27, 2015 at Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab in Stronghurst. She was born July 29, 1920 near Lomax, Illinois, the daughter of John and Mary "Molly" McIntire Dowell. On December 24, 1941, she married Ivan Goble in Canton, Missouri. He preceded her in death on November 21, 1978.

Helen was a graduate of Dallas City High School. She had worked as a secretary for Shaeffer Pen Company in Fort Madison, IA, Iowa Army Ammunitions Plant in Middletown, IA, Lomax Canning Factory in Lomax, IL, and Pioneer Lumber Company in Dallas City. Following the death of her husband, she managed the operation of the family farm. She was a member of the Lomax Christian Church, where she had served as choir member, trustee, and church treasurer for many years.

Helen enjoyed traveling, and made several trips to various European countries. She also spent many winters in Mesa, AZ. She enjoyed reading, listening to music, and in her younger years, taking walks, ballroom and square dancing, knitting, crafting and sewing.

Survivors include eight nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, five sisters, Faye Logan, Ferne Rubert, Ruby Gittings, Kathryn Noble, and Isabelle Dowell, two brothers, Donald and Dale Dowell, and six nieces and nephews.

The funeral service for Mrs. Goble will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday September 30, 2015 in the Lomax Christian Church, with Rev. Raymond McLaren officiating. Burial will follow in the Carman Cemetery, Carman, IL. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. A memorial fund has been established for the Lomax Christian Church. John. D. "J.D." Darnell

John D. "J.D." Darnell, age 66, of Gladstone, Illinois, passed away at 2:55 pm on Sunday, September 27, 2015 at the Care Center of Abingdon. He was born on March 15, 1949 in Monmouth, Illinois, the son of George V. and Eva E. (Stormer) Darnell. J.D. was reared and educated in Monmouth. In August, 1969, J.D. married Shirley McCoy at Immaculate Conception Church and she preceded him in death on December 17, 2007. J.D. began work at J.I. Case where he enjoyed a 33 year career. He also worked at Kent Feeds, owned his own trucking company for a time, and drove trucks for various farmers in the area. J.D. loved "Gold Wing" motorcycles and belonged to the Gold Wing club locally. He was a life long member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Monmouth. J.D. is survived by one daughter; Faunda (Rodney) Reed of Knoxville, IL, one son; Jason (Cory Dergance) Darnell of LaSalle, IL, three sisters; Sharon J. Jern of Oquawka, IL, Mary Sue Wells of Monmouth, IL, and Carol E. "Shorty" Buster of Ft. Meyers, FL, three brothers; Ronald E. (Linda) Darnell of Kirkwood, IL, Donald E. (Sharon Ann) Darnell of Kirkwood, IL, and Richard L. "Poodle" Darnell of Monmouth, IL, four grandchildren; Johnathan, Nathaniel, Mason, and Parker. A number of nieces and nephews are also surviving. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Shirley, nephew Mark Buster, and brother-in-law Pete Jern.

The Mass of Christian Burial is planned for 10:00 am on Thursday, October 1, 2015 at Immaculate Conception Church in Monmouth. The Rosary will be recited at 5:00 pm on Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka. His family plans to receive friends after the Rosary until 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Charles J. Johnson

Mr. Charles J. Johnson, 87, of Knoxville, Ill. formerly of Lombard, Ill. died 8:00 p.m. Sunday, September 27, 2015 at Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville, Ill. 

He was born December 25, 1927 in Kilbourne, Ill. to Frank and Elsie Blanchard Johnson. He married Leila Jean Ruhrseitz June 19, 1954 in Lombard, Ill. She survives. 

Also surviving are two daughters, Susie (and Bill) Bates of Gilson, Ill. and Linda Johnson (and Trena McDaniel) of Lake Zurich, Ill., his brother, Bernard (and Delores) Johnson of Camdenton, Mo., two grandchildren, Brian (and Sara) Bates and Jennifer (and Israel) Granillo and a great grandchild, Alex Granillo. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Juanita Sheehan and Frieda Johnson.

Charlie was a bricklayer for D.H. Johnson in Villa Park, Ill. for 48 years and retired in 1996. He served in the United States Army from 1945 to 1946. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Glen Ellyn, Ill and Grace Lutheran Church in Knoxville, Ill. He was a volunteer fire fighter in Lombard for over 25 years and retired as captain in 1975. Charlie was a devoted family man and enjoyed traveling and fishing. He was an avid golfer. 

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 1, 2015 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Michel Clark will officiate. Janet L. Knuth

Janet L. Knuth, age 75, of Knoxville, Illinois died at 4:29 P.M. on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at the Marigold Rehab & Health Care Center, Galesburg, Illinois.

She was born on November 18, 1939 in Knoxville, Illinois the daughter of Harold and Florence Louise Stewart Craig. She was reared and educated in Knoxville, Illinois. She married Donald Knuth on June 1, 1965 in Dahinda, Illinois.

She is survived by a daughter, Laura Franklin of Keokuk, Iowa; four grandchildren, Chad Craig, Cory Craig, Alex Franklin, and Allyson (Justin) Reynolds; two great-grandchildren, Lily and Zacory Franklin; two sisters, Barbara Harrison of Viola, Illinois and Donna (Bill) Stancomb of Knoxville, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Gary Craig and one sister, Pat Leonard.

She was a waitress most of her life, working in the Galesburg and Knoxville areas, working for the Grandview, Steak and Shake and George’s cafĂ©. She loved Elvis and enjoyed crafting, such as cake decorating, and quilting. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Knoxville, Illinois.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 2, 2015 at 12:00 Noon at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes and Crematory in Knoxville, Illinois. Rev. David Shreeves officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Interment will be in the Knoxville Cemetery, Knoxville, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the family. Berniece F. Hall

Berniece F. Hall, 99 of Roseville, IL passed away Saturday September 26, 2015, 5:30 pm at the Roseville Rehab and Health Care Center. She was born Wednesday January 26, 1916 near Palmyra, MO the daughter of Clarence Burten and Elizabeth Susan (Foxall) McKee. She married H. Lynn Hall on December 22, 1933, he preceded her in death in 1986.

She is survived by four children Phyllis Bell of Roseville, IL, Michael (Anne) Hall of Roseville, Il, Gregory G. (Cindy) Hall of Goshen, IN, and Sue (Ray) Perdomo of Skokie, IL; 13 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 3 step great grandchildren, 20 great-great grandchildren, and 2 step great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 1 daughter (Ramona Farr), 1 son-in-law (Robert Bell), 1 granddaughter, 6 brothers, and 3 sisters.

She worked at the Roseville Nursing Home. She was a member of the Roseville Nazarene Church for 40 years and also served on the church board. She loved to read and work cross-word puzzles. She loved to cook and bake for her grandchildren especially her sugar cookies.

Frances L. Hoffman

Frances L. Hoffman, 86, of Galesburg, died at 12:26 p.m. Thursday, September 24, 2015 in Marigold Health Care Center.

She was born May 27, 1929 in Kewanee, Illinois, the daughter of William John and Mable J. (Wright) Blodgett. She married Theodore Earl Hoffman April 12, 1947 at First Baptist Church in Galesburg. He preceded her in death November 22, 1999.

She is survived by four children, Ted (and Hillary) Hoffman of Galesburg, Steve (and Judy) Hoffman of Pekin, Gary Hoffman of Abingdon, and Lisa (and Mark) Sprague of Cypress, Texas; 12 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and two sisters, Audrey Bellin and Shirley Brock. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, John and Joe; a granddaughter, Crissy; and 10 brothers and sisters.

Frances worked at Kresge’s for many years before moving to K Mart, where she worked for 25 years before retiring January 5, 1994. She was of the Baptist faith. Frances loved being around her large rambunctious family, especially for Sunday dinner. She was always generous with her time and thought the best of everyone. She loved singing, dancing, and working in her garden.

Vivian L. Smith

Vivian L. Smith, 76, of St. Augustine, IL passed away at 12:15 AM on September 25, 2015 peacefully at her residence. She was born on July 17, 1939 in Jacksonville, IL to Leland and Marie (Moss) Ray. She married Harold Marvin Smith on May 3, 1963 in Missouri. He preceded her in death on February 15, 2015.

Surviving are two children, Martha (David Hiatt) Sandman of St. Augustine, IL; Michael Smith Sr. of St. Augustine, IL; three grandchildren, Marcus (Amber) Sandman of Galesburg, IL; Maria (Jesus) DeLaCruz of Abingdon, IL; Michael Smith Jr. of Abingdon, IL and six great-grandchildren.

Vivian and Harold shared over 51 years of marriage. In 1977 Vivian along with her husband opened Smith Bate Shop in St. Augustine were the served the community for 37 Years. Together they also participated in the Spoon River Scenic Drive for 30 years selling Bittersweet’s and Leather Wallets.

Marshall E. Welch

Marshall E. Welch, 67, of Monmouth, IL died at 10:15 a.m. Saturday, September 26, 2015 at his home.
He was born October 20, 1947 in Macomb, IL, the son of Mabel Welch. He attended Aledo High School in Aledo, IL. 

Marshall worked as a machinist at Farmall in Rock Island for 22 years, retiring in 1983. He enjoyed reading, playing pitch and other card games at the Elks, Danny’s, and the Woodshed.

Marshall is survived by two sons; Tim (Shari Leary) Welch of Little York, IL, Troy (Audra) Welch of Milan, IL, one daughter Honesty (Mike) Howard of Valrico, FL, twelve grandchildren; Amber Welch, Samantha Krider, Samantha Palanco, Sheldon Welch, Amanda Johnson, Jade Howard, Mercedes Howard, Brett Welch, Troy Welch, Jr., Breanna Welch, Michael Howard, Trinity Howard, four great grandchildren; Braycen Majors, Keegan Majors, Hayden Damewood, and Hailynn Krider. Also surviving are three sisters; Kathy (William) Brock of Seaton, IL, Diana (Tim) Tromblee of Aledo, LaDonna Holcomb of Rock Island, IL, one brother Merle Robbins of Gerlaw, and several nieces and nephews.

Payton Joshua Coe, infant son of Clayton T. Coe and Marisa R. Troester, was born a quiet birth at 1:32 p.m. on September 16, 2015 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.

Payton is survived by his parents of Galesburg; two brothers, Dawson Paul Coe and Cameron John William Coe; his maternal grandparents, Bobbi and Curt Troester; paternal grandparents, Donald Coe and Jeanne Clark; maternal great grandparents, Edward Troester, Diane and Paul Bohlken, and Annie Conner; and paternal great grandparents, Peg Henderson and Katherine Coe.

Roberta Steck

Mrs. Roberta Steck, 98, of Galesburg, Illinois died at 6:00 am Wednesday, September 23, 2015 in Monticello Nursing home in Hamilton, Illinois.

She was born May 29, 1917 in Monmouth, Illinois the daughter of Howard and Lola Law Carrier. She first married James Palmer in 1940 in Burlington, Iowa. She later married Paul Steck on June 3, 1977 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on August 13, 2002.

She is survived by her two daughters, Linda (and Bill) Robinson of Warsaw, Illinois and Paula (and Steven) Miller of Grant, Florida; one brother, Joseph Carrier of Industry, Illinois; four grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, her son, Jim Palmer, her daughter, Nancy Palmer, three brothers and two sisters.

Roberta worked as a LPN at Cottage Hospital for 18 years. She graduated from Monmouth High School in 1936 and attended Monmouth College. She was a member of the Home Extension. Roberta was a member of the Harmony Baptist Church.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 11 am Friday, September 25, 2015 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Jim Richardson will officiate. Visitation will be 10-11 am Friday at the chapel. Margaret Leona Connors

Margaret Leona Connors, 90, of Galesburg, died at 5:07 a.m. Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at Heartland Health Care Center, Galesburg.

Margaret was born May 8, 1925 in Moline, the daughter of Leon and Mary Colpert Somers. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School. Margaret married Eugene Connors on May 19, 1951 in Moline. He preceded her in death on April 20, 2015. Margaret is survived by two sons, James (Rebecca) of Galesburg and John of St. Thomas, USVI; two daughters, Mary (Doug) Witting of Griffith, IN and Teresa (Peter Deeman) Connors of Elmhurst; and two grandchildren, Matthew and Sarah Connors. Along with her husband, Margaret was preceded in death by her father, Leon Somers; her mother and step father, Mary (Louie) Hinsberger.

Margaret began working at First National Bank in Moline in 1944 and worked there over 10 years. After they moved to Galesburg, Margaret worked as the lunch cashier at Gale Middle School from 1971 to 1987. After retirement, Margaret and Gene moved to Florida for 22 years. They returned to Galesburg in 2009. Margaret was a longtime member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. She loved cooking, baking and sewing for her family. Margaret had a kind and caring heart. She loved meeting and talking to people and learning about their lives. She was a lover of animals, enjoyed riding her bike and was an avid reader.

Wanda Lucille Wessels

Wanda Lucille Wessels, 90, of Galesburg, died at 6:20 a.m. Sunday, September 20, 2015 at the home of her daughter.

Wanda was born November 18, 1924 in Galesburg, the daughter of Frank Cornelius and Pearl Amanda Kennedy Stiarwalt. Wanda married Bernard Wessels on June 24, 1942 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on November 19, 1977. Wanda is survived by two sons, Ronald Wessels of Rio Rancho, NM and Robert L. Wessels of Lake St. Louis, MO; six daughters, Kathleen Herslow of Arizona, Marjorie (John) Wilson of Chandler, AZ, Joyce (Charles) Allen of Champlain, MN, Patricia (Glen) Gustafson of Galesburg, Teresa (Michael) Thompson of Galesburg, and Amy (Bryan) Jehling of Tempe, AZ; 22 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Along with her husband, Wanda was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Joseph Wessels in 2002; three brothers; and one sister.

Wanda worked at Maytag for many years, retiring in 1990. She was a charter member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, the Ladies of Mary, and Church Women United. She enjoyed oil painting and hosted a group of fellow painters in her home. Wanda enjoyed baking and was an excellent cake decorator.

The rosary will be prayed at 5 p.m. Friday, September 25, 2015 at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory. A visitation will follow from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Leonard J. Hedbloom

Leonard J. Hedbloom, 93 of Knoxville, passed from this earthly life at 6:56 a.m. Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born December 4, 1921 at the family home in Cambridge, the son of Victor J. and Jesse L. Bennett Hedbloom. He came home on leave while serving in the Army from Camp McCoy, Wisconsin and married Dorothy “Jean” Carlberg on January 1, 1944 at the farm of Jean’s parents, Everett and Vonna Carlberg.

Leonard is survived by his loving wife of almost 72 years, Jean; his loving children, Sharyn J. Hedbloom (and Margaret Frimoth) of Astoria, Oregon, Janis J. King Wood (and Rich) of Knoxville, Bruce L. Hedbloom (and Norma) of Knoxville, and Lynne M. Hedbloom (and Arne Otness) of Seaside, Oregon; 10 grandchildren, Seth (and Shannon) King, Michael Hedbloom, Carlos Barrios, Aaron (and Jessica) King, Nate (and Stephanie) King, Elisa Barrios, Linley Hedbloom, Scott Hedbloom, Anna (and Billy) Bolt, and Jonathan Wood; 14 great-grandchildren and one on the way, Lauren, Emily, Olivia, and Henry King, Aubree Nemeth, Harper King, Eloise King, Will Bolt, and Kelci, Jonathan, Jordyn, Heaven, Natalia and Jonae Wood. He was preceded in death by his parents and four sisters, Edith Naslund, Betsy Johnson, Victoria Hedbloom, and Bernadine Hedbloom (twins). 

He graduated from Cambridge High School in 1939. He served in the 2nd Armored Division and the 82nd Airborne Patrol of the U.S. Army during World War II and obtained the rank of Sergeant. He farmed for 53 years and also worked at Gates Rubber Company for 20 years. He retired from farming in 1999 and from Gates in 1984. He was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Knoxville. He was a member and past director of the Knox County Farm Bureau, the 2nd Armored Division Association (Battle of the Bulge), the “Hell on Wheels”, past Haw Creek Township Board member, and he served on the church cemetery board. He enjoyed working, helping others, stamp collecting, and spending time with his family. He loved flowers and working outside.

As he requested, cremation will be accorded. To celebrate his life, the family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, September 27, 2015 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Graveside service with the presentation of the United States Flag and playing of Taps will follow at the Abingdon Cemetery. Rev. Michel Clark will officiate.

Robert Keith Baughman

Robert Keith Baughman, 83, of East Galesburg, Illinois died at 2:15 P.M. on Friday, September 18, 2015 at Marigold Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, Galesburg, Illinois.

Robert was born on September 5, 1932 in Yates City, Illinois, the son of Roger and Carolyn Vancil Baughman. He was raised and educated in Galesburg, Illinois and graduated from Galesburg High School. He attended the police institute. He was married to Maralene Whitney.


Robert was an Army veteran who served during the Korean Conflict.

He retired from the BN railroad in 1981 as a conductor. Robert also worked as a police officer for Knoxville and Avon and was a Knox County Sheriff’s Deputy at the Knox County Court House.

Robert was a member of the Full Gospel Church, AMVETS, and Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285.

Robert is survived by his children, Terry Baughman of Galesburg, Illinois, Karin Pierson of Knoxville, Illinois, Steven Baughman of Galesburg, Illinois, Kathy Jackson of Galesburg, Illinois, and Brenda Sellon of Galesburg, Illinois; 11 grandchildren; 13 Great-Grandchildren; siblings, Carol J. (Curtis) Temple of Galesburg, Illinois, Dennis (Jeanie) Baughman of Lincoln, Nebraska, Phylis (Glenn) Crockett of Atkinson, Illinois, Myrna (Steve) Godsil of Galesburg, Illinois, Roger (Betty) Baughman of Galesburg, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and sister-in-law, Richard (Julia) Baughman, and a sister and brother-in-law, Betty (Leonard) Stromgren.

Paul Robert Jehling

Paul Robert Jehling, 72, of Galesburg, died at 7:25 a.m. Tuesday, September 22, 2015 in the emergency room of Galesburg Cottage Hospital.

He was born September 25, 1942 in Percy, Illinois, the son of Earl H. and Margaret L. (Bergfeld) Jehling. He married Karen J. Smith on September 15, 1963 in Galesburg.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Karen; two sons, Bryan (and Amy) Jehling of Tempe, Arizona and Jeffrey (and Elaine) Jehling of Galesburg; three grandchildren, Vanessa, Maureen, and Tyler Jehling; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Allen Jehling.

Paul was a cashier at the Bank of Galesburg for several years. He then was the district office manager for Alexander Lumber Company before retiring in February of 2002. He had taught banking classes at Carl Sandburg College. He graduated from Galva High School in 1960. He went on to attend Illinois State University and graduated from Brown’s Business College.

He was an active member of First Christian Church, where he had served as a Deacon and on the Board of Trustees. Paul had been a Cub Scout leader. He enjoyed painting on canvas and was known for keeping an immaculate yard.

Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, September 28, 2015 at First Christian Church. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. Monday at the church with Rev. Greg Fitch and Rev. M.J. William A. "Bill" Worley

William A."Bill" Worley, age 74 of Lomax, Illinois, passed away at 4:36 p.m. Monday September 21, 2015 at Cottage Hospital in Galesburg, Illinois. He was born December 16, 1940 in Lomax, the son of Albert Levi and Goldie Valentine Hoskins Worley. On June 29, 1961 he married Peggy Maynard. They later divorced. On April 30, 1993, he married Beverly Irene Anders.

Bill was a welder for J.I. Case Company in Burlington, Iowa, retiring in 1992. He was a member of the United Auto Workers Local 807, Oquawka Masonic Lodge, and the former Lomax Nazarene Church. He loved welding, hunting, fishing, gardening, tinkering with lawn mowers, and especially, spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, three sons, Kevin (Evie) Worley of Dallas City, IL, Kelly (Grace) Worley of Lomax, IL, Kendall Worley of Burlington, IA, two step daughters, Sherri (Harley) Jones of LaHarpe, IL, Valerie (Joshua) Huss of Dallas City, IL, sixteen grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, two brothers, Larry (Leila) Worley of Carman, IL, George Worley of Lomax, IL, one sister, Flora Bloom of Fontanelle, IA, and his special friend, Phillip Butler, with whom he shared his birthday. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Audrey Neotia Hughbanks

Audrey Neotia Hughbanks, 95, a longtime Knoxville resident passed away on Monday, September 21, 2015 at the Knox County Nursing Home.

Audrey was born July 8, 1920 in Fulton County, Illinois to Clark Otis and Edith Faye Moore White. Audrey married Frank Hughbanks, February 14, 1937. They lived in Peoria County until moving to Knoxville in 1942.

Audrey is survived by her daughters, JoAnn Gibbs, Gilson and Shirley (Larry) Lowe, Carlock; grandchildren, Kathy (Roger) Secrist, East Galesburg; Russell (Jami) Gibbs and Sean Gibbs, Gilson, Jason (Kellie) Gibbs, Belvidere; James (Erin) Lowe, Albers and Tom (Stephanie) Lowe, Pingree Grove; eight great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.

Audrey was preceded in death, by her parents and husband, Frank; her sisters Eva and Geneva; brother Alfred and son-in-law Donnie Gibbs.

Audrey worked in the cafeteria at Knoxville High School for 33 years. She was affectionately known as the “Ice cream lady.”

Her kindness to others and her willingness to share her pie baking and sewing talents with family and friends will be remembered by those that knew her.

Audrey’s family would like to thank the caring, hardworking and dedicated staff at Knox County Nursing Home especially the two Michelles. The love you showed mom was greatly appreciated.

Robert E. "Bob" West

Robert E. “Bob” West, age 90, of Knoxville, Illinois, died on Monday, September 21, 2015 at the Knox County Nursing Home in Knoxville, Illinois.

He was born on June 22, 1925 in Knoxville, Illinois, the son of Earl and Starr Mulliner West. He attended and graduated from Knoxville High School. He married Rosalie “Rosie” Sottos on November 7, 1947 in Knoxville, Illinois. She preceded him in death on May 25, 2000.

Surviving is a son< Richard Earl “Rick” West of Knoxville, Illinois; two grandchildren, Rob West of East Galesburg, Illinois and Meo (Marcus) Kyser of Galesburg, Illinois; four grandchildren, Jade and Jasmine West, Bishop and Kingston Kyser. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and three sisters.

He worked as an individual contractor in Tool Design in California, owned and operated the West Drive-In Restaurant in Redway, California. He enjoyed his animals and gardening. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Knoxville, Illinois. He served in the Marine Corp. from September 1943 to March 1946.

Pauline I. Conant

Pauline I. Conant, age 102, of Richmond, Indiana and formerly of Monmouth, passed away in Richmond, Indiana on May 7, 2015 at 9:00 pm. Pauline was born on August 25, 1913 in Warren County, Illinois and is the daughter of Ernest and Nora Elliott Ischer. She was raised in the Berwick Community and graduated from the Roseville High School and Brown's Business College in Galesburg, Illinois. She was married to John B. Conant on April 16, 1938 in Columbia, Missouri and he preceded her in death in 1977. Pauline, first was a banker at the Monmouth Trust and Savings Bank. After moving to Lawrenceburg, Indiana she was the assistant Librarian at the local library. In retirement they lived in Lehigh Acres, Florida where she was a member of the Community Congregational Church for a number of years. Pauline loved to travel. 

She is survived by her son John B. Conant, Jr. of Richmond, Indiana and two grandchildren. Also a number of cousins are surviving, some of whom are local. She is preceded in her death by her parents, husband, four brothers, and her sister. Cremation has been accorded in Indiana at the time of her death. A graveside committal service and interment of her ashes is to be this Friday at 10:00 am September 25, 2015 at the Roseville Cemetery in Roseville, Illinois. Lawrence Raymond Turley, 80 of Roseville, IL passed away Sunday September 20, 2015, 10:03 am at his home. He was born Sunday January 13, 1935 in Roseville, IL the son of Lawrence Elswick and Lillian Margaret (Ross) Turley. He married Fern Joyce Harris on December 10, 1953.

He is survived by his wife of Roseville, IL; three children Pamela (Greg) Livermore of Roseville, IL, David (Kendra) Turley of Vernon Hills, IL, and Michael Turley of Hamilton, MT; 9 grandchildren Nicholas (Melissa) Livermore, Nathaniel (Nicole) Livermore, Noah (Katina) Livermore, Abigail Turley, Benjamin Turley, Collin Turley, Ryan Turley, and Mathew Turley, Holly Turley; 2 step-grandchildren Justin Bourne, and Jessica Bourne; 6 great grandchildren; one brother Charles “Bud” (Donna) Turley. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother (Donald Turley), 1 sister (Margaret Yeakey), 1 niece (Kelli Lightsey).

He was born and raised in Roseville, IL. He graduated from Roseville High School. He served in the U.S. Air force from 1952-1956 and was a staff Sergeant. He was the Co owner of Turley and Sons Service Station with his father and brother, he also worked for the Roseville School District as a custodian retiring in 1997 after 17 years. He was a member of the Roseville Fire Department for 12 years retiring in 1986 he was also a past Fire Chief. He was a member of the Roseville Cemetery Board, and member of the Roseville Masonic Lodge for 57 years and was a Past Master. He enjoyed woodworking, spending time at his children and grandchildren’s extra curricular activities, fishing and antiquing with his wife.

Graveside Service will be Friday September 25, 2015, 11:30 am at the Roseville Township Cemetery, Rev. James Oliver will officiate. Duane E. Gilson

Duane E. Gilson, 78, of Galesburg, died at 3:45 p.m. Saturday, September 19, 2015 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.

He was born May 1, 1937, in Galesburg, the son of Floyd and Mabel (McLaren) Gilson.

He is survived by a lifelong friend, Darla Swinger and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Duane graduated from Galesburg High School in 1958. He was a lifelong resident of Galesburg. Duane had worked at the former Davis Food Store and was a driver for the Galesburg Rescue Mission for 14 years, retiring in 2002. He was a member of First Church of the Open Bible, where he served as an usher and drove the church van. Duane was an avid Chicago Bears and White Sox fan.

Cremation will be accorded. Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, September 26, 2016 at First Church of the Open Bible. Memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at the church with Pastor Mark Dexter officiating. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the family. Nancy L. Ruetz

Nancy L. Ruetz, 86, Galesburg, IL died peacefully at 11:00 p.m., September 19, 2015, at the Knox County Nursing Home in Knoxville, IL.

She was born June 1, 1929, in Moline Illinois, the daughter of Paul Wayne and Ruby Rich, and was raised by Ruby and Clarence (“Peanuts”) Wilson. She married August (“Gus”) Ruetz in 1950 in Joliet, Illinois, who preceded her in death in 2004.

Nancy is survived by one brother, Tom (Judy) Wilson of Galesburg, Illinois; three sons, David (Becky) Ruetz of Galesburg, Illinois, Terry (Deb) Ruetz of Monmouth, Illinois and Ted (Lisa) Ruetz of Knoxville, Illinois; one daughter, Kathryn Ruetz (Carolyn Hill) of St. Petersburg, Florida; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. She is predeceased by two grandchildren. 

After graduating from Silver Cross Hospital Nursing School in Joliet Illinois, she worked as Director of Nursing for the Knox County Nursing Home, as a nurse at St. Mary’s and Cottage Hospitals in Galesburg, and for Dr. Hickerson in Knoxville for more than 25 years. After retiring, Nancy worked with the American Red Cross Disaster Services volunteering for disaster assistance around the country, concluding at the age of 72 by traveling to Ground Zero two days following the 9/11 tragedy. She was a member of the Knoxville Women’s Club and the American Legion Auxiliary and loved being with family and friends, playing dominos and the Chicago Cubs.

Graveside service will be at 11 a.m., September 23, 2015, at the Knoxville Cemetery. There will be a reception at the Knoxville American Legion following. Charlie M. Halsey, 68, of Galesburg, Illinois died at 8:00 A.M. on Sunday, September 20, 2015 at home.

He was born on August 23, 1947 in Galesburg, Illinois the son of Lyle E. and F. Catherine Coultas Halsey. He was raised and educated in Knoxville, Illinois. He was first married to Patricia A. Coombs. He later married Candace A. Robbins on June 25, 1983 in Galesburg, Illinois. She preceded him in death in 2004.

Charlie is survived by his children, Valarie M. Halsey of Galesburg, Illinois, Timothy M. (Erin) Halsey of Keithsburg, Illinois, and Jason L. (Nora) Skrodenis of Scottsdale, Arizona; seven grandchildren, Alex, Ian, Marissa, Tyler, Maya, Evie, and Lily; his significant other, Vicki Joyner of Galesburg, Illinois; her son, Jeremy Dutton of Galesburg, Illinois and grandchildren, Chase and Jozlyn; one sister, Helen Stewart of Galesburg, Illinois; two brothers, William Halsey of Galesburg, Illinois, and Arlo Halsey of White Bear Lake, Minnesota.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and a daughter, Cheryl C. Halsey.

Charlie worked at Maytag, Briggs Pottery, and retired from the Galesburg Sanitary District.

Sharon K. Conner, 66, of Galesburg, Illinois died at 3:38 A.M., Sunday, September 20, 2015 at OSF St. Francis Hospital, Peoria, Illinois. 

She was born on October 12, 1948 in Kewanee, Illinois, the daughter of Floyd A. and Lillian Powers Workheiser. She married Gary W. Conner, Sr. on September 30, 1967 in Kewanee, Illinois. He preceded her in death on June 6, 2014. 

Surviving are her children: Richard (Laura) Conner of Galesburg, Illinois, Susan (Dave) Williams of Dahinda, Illinois, and Gary (Becky) Conner, Jr. of Knoxville, Illinois; six grandchildren: Ashley Lasley, Richard Conner, Jr., Bailey Conner, Amber Williams, Joshua Conner, and Lindsey Williams; one great granddaughter, Natalia Anne Conner; her siblings, Phyllis Camey of Kewanee, Illinois, Floyd A. “Sonny” (Martha) Workheiser, Jr. of Kewanee, Illinois, Robert L. “Bob” Workheiser, Sr. of Kewanee, Illinois, Kenneth L. (Jean) Workheiser of Clovis, New Mexico, Lois (Clifford) Calhoun of Elroy, Wisconsin, Dorothy (Wilbur) Jones of Galesburg, Illinois, Ronald Workheiser of Decatur, Illinois, Roger (Garnafay) Workheiser of Galesburg, Illinois, Gary (Jackie) Workheiser of Kewanee, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Lorraine Owens and one brother, Edward Workheiser.

She worked for Galesburg School District 205 in the cafeteria. She was known as the “Lunch Lady”. She enjoyed shopping, going to yard sales and was very active with her grandkids.

Praxedis Salazar

Praxedis Salazar, 64, of Galesburg, died at 12:15 p.m. Friday, September 18, 2015 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital, Galesburg.

Praxedis was born on July 15, 1951 in Sabinas, Hidalgo Nuevo Leon, Mexico, the son of Praxedis and Mauricia Ledezma Salazar. He married Elia Hilda Cruz on September 11, 1967 in Laredo, TX. He is survived by his wife, Elia of Galesburg; one son, Praxedis G. (Alicia) Salazar of Lawrence, KS; two daughters, Irma M. (Samuel) Garcia of Galesburg and Elia H. (Armando) Salazar of Topeka, KS; ten grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Juan Antonio (Carmen) Salazar of Rosenberg, TX; three sisters, Martha (Juan) Cruz of Galesburg; Enedelia (Ciro) Gonzalez and Estella (Luis) Vedia; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Praxedis worked as a machine operator for 30 years at BNSF. Praxedis enjoyed his family and loved having his grandchildren around when he could. He enjoyed watching television especially baseball and the St. Louis Cardinals.

Per his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and no local services are planned. His ashes will be interred in Laredo, TX at a later date. Mr. Bernard R. Kelley age 89 of Galesburg, Ill., died at 11:07 p.m. Thursday September 17, 2015 at Knox County Nursing Home.

He was born August 2, 1926 in Libertyville, Ia. the son of Clifford and Irene Lyon Kelley. He first married Mildred Pope in 1945 in Texas, she preceded him in death in 1998. He later married Katherine Berry in Galesburg, Ill., June 3, 1978.

Bernard is survived by his wife Katherine, one son Duane and Cammy Kelley of Burlington, Ia., three daughters Deborah and Michael Wilson of Jefferson City, Mo., Karen and Charles Bowman of Mt. Pleasant, Ia., and Teresa Carver of Malcom, Ia., four step daughters Cathy Berry of Galesburg, , Carla and Steven Schmalz, of Galesburg, Carol and Brad Dietrich, of Quincy, Ill., Connie Mc Dorman of Galesburg, thirteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

He graduated from Fairfield High School and Parsons College in Fairfield, Ia.. He served in the United States Army. He was a salesman for Keebler Cookie Company and was owner of the Grand Pipe and Tobacco Shop in Galesburg retiring in 1993. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and the V.F.W Post 2257.

William J. Leary

William J. Leary, age 82, of Monmouth, Illinois passed away at 3:10 am at the Marigold Nursing Home in Galesburg, Illinois on Thursday, September 17, 2015. Bill was born on January 23, 1933 in Monmouth, Illinois, the son of James and Loretta (Lee) Leary. He was raised and educated in Monmouth and graduated from Monmouth High School with the Class of 1951. Bill enlisted in the United States Army on January 29, 1952 and proudly served his Country until his discharge. On January 23, 1962, he married Bonnie E. Smith in Monmouth, Illinois and she preceded him in death on May 15, 2013. Bill began his employment with the BNSF Railroad. He the worked for the United States Postal Service for 35 years, serving as a mail carrier. He retired from there in 1994. Bill was a longtime member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Monmouth. Bill was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs. He is survived by on son; Dale J. Leary of Monmouth, IL, one daughter, Cindy (Jamie) Brown of Coldwater, OH, four granddaughters, three grandsons, and one sister, Marge Arnold of Marion, IL. Bill is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Bonnie, and two brothers.

A Mass of Christian Burial is planned for 10:00 am on Monday, September 21, 2015 at Immaculate Conception Church in Monmouth. A. Maxine Hiett


A. Maxine Hiett, age 91, of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away at 6:00 am on Monday, September 14, 2015 at the Roseville Nursing and Rehab Center in Roseville, Illinois.

Maxine was born on July 24, 1924 in Monmouth, Illinois and is the daughter of William Monroe and Merle Meta Kessinger Reyburn. She was raised in Monmouth, where she attended local schools and Monmouth High School. She then graduated from the Kirkwood High School in Kirkwood with the class of 1944. Maxine was first married to Louis Almaguer on May 25, 1946 in Monmouth, and he preceded her in death in 1948. She later married Robert Hiett in February 1958 in Monmouth, Illinois. He is surviving. Maxine began work at Western Stoneware of Monmouth, Illinois where she worked for a number of years. She then was employed at Peters Jewelry and later at Wirtz Book Store, both former businesses in Monmouth. Maxine is a life member of Immaculate Conception Church in Monmouth and it's Altar and Rosary Society and parents club. When her children were small she was active in Brownies and Girl Scouts and also Cub Scouts. She also was very involved with Kewpiesta of the Bonniebrook Historical Society in Branson, Missouri. She also was a life member and held many offices in the Rose O'Niell Society and began the Bonniebrook Museum. 

She is survived by three daughters, Xandra (Ted) Tarr of Cleveland, TN; Merleanne (Robert) Rampale of Prairieview, IL; and Roberta Ann Hiett also of Prairieview, Illinois. One son survives, Robert A. Hiett II of Galesburg, IL.; There are seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren surviving. One sister survives, Pauline (Pat) DeWitt of Galesburg, IL; and three brothers, Gene (Donna) Reyburn of Monmouth, IL; Charles (Donna) Reyburn of Galesburg, IL; and James (Sandra) Reyburn of Whittier, of CA. Also a number of nieces and nephews are also surviving. She is preceded in her death by her parents, one son Ronald, and her first husband.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Friday September 18, 2015 at Immaculate Conception Church in Monmouth, Illinois. Interment will follow in St.Mary's Catholic Cemetery of Monmouth. Elizabeth M. Winter

Elizabeth “Lee” Marguerite Winter, 88, died at 9 a.m. Saturday, September 12, 2015, at Knox County Nursing Home.

Lee was born on November 19, 1926, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Giacomo “James” and Lorita “Rita” (Pirolli) Visco. She was married in Philadelphia in 1946. Lee was a devoted mother, proud grandmother, and loving great-grandmother. She is survived by two sons Robert (Gail) Winter of Galesburg, Richard (Cheryl) Winter, Jr. of Peoria, one daughter, Denise Bailey of Knoxville, and their father, Richard Winter, Sr. of Galva; eight grandchildren, Kelly Mussehl, Michelle Vella, Matt Winter, Aaron Winter, Elizabeth “Libby” Perez, Michael Bailey, Austin Winter and Kathryn Winter; and 17 great-grandchildren. Along with her parents and six siblings, she was preceded in death by a son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Crislyn Winter, a son-in-law, Dennis Bailey, and a great-grandson, Paul Winter.

In addition to raising her four children, Lee worked in dining services at Knox College in the 60s, and later as a cook at the Landmark CafĂ© and Northgate Lounge. She was one of the first to make Landmark’s crepes and special spinach bisque.

Lee loved her country and was extremely proud of her Italian heritage and her birthplace. She was always quick to tell people that Philadelphia is referred to as the city of “brotherly love.” Lee held many officer positions in the American Legion Auxiliary and was a member of the Eight and Forty. She was an avid Phillies fan, and loved to read, listen to country music and Italian singers, play bingo, and solve crossword puzzles.

Lee made a difference in the lives of many. She always had a soft spot for children and animals. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Doggy Daze Program or to the Friends of Knox County Nursing Home.

The rosary will be prayed at 1 p.m. Thursday, September 17, 2015 at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Mrs. Sharon Farrell age 73 of Galesburg, Ill. died Sunday September 13, 2015 at 5:30 a.m. at her home.

She was born December 8, 1941 in Galesburg, Ill., the daughter of Kermitt R. and Ila Robinson Short. She married Joseph L. Smith in Galesburg on April 10, 1960. She later married Joe Farrell in 1989.

Sharon is survived by two sons Joseph D. Smith of North Carolina and Robert and Chastity Smith of Galesburg, one daughter Karla Smith of Galesburg, one brother Robert Short of Chicago, one sister Connie Reading of Galesburg, four grandchildren Rory, Kaylynn, Skyler, and Connor Smith three great grandchildren, Dylan Wilkens, Jada Smith, and Kieden Pence. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one sister Dixie Patterson.

She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1959. She worked for G.B. Oil for several years retiring in 2004. She was an avid Chicago Bears fan, was a member of the Office Dart Team, and loved to play Pitch.

Penelope Gunther Bjorkman, 77, of Galesburg died at 6:21 a.m. Thursday, September 10, 2015 in OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, Illinois.

She was born April 16, 1938 in Galesburg the daughter of H. Dale and Marie Maltby Gunther. She married James L. Bjorkman on July 13, 1957 in Galesburg. He survives.

Also surviving are her daughter, Cindy (and Stephen) Bosy of Park Ridge, Illinois and her son, Peter (and Michelle) Bjorkman of Greentown, Pennsylvania; her brother, Pete (and Mary Lou) Gunther of Galesburg; two sisters, Pam (and Don) Robinson and Prue Hillier, both of Galesburg; five grandchildren, Jamie, Sam, and Jackson Bjorkman and Zachary and Isabelle Bosy; and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents.

She was a preschool teacher at Costa Catholic School for several years.

Celebration of her life will be 11 a.m. Saturday, October 31, 2015 in the Lincoln Room at Knox College. Cremation will be accorded. Mary Beth Colburn, 63, of Galesburg, died at 5:45 p.m. Friday, September 11, 2015 at home.
Mary Beth was born on June 19, 1952 in Galesburg, the daughter of John E. and Shirley A. (Paden) Stiles.  Mary Beth married Donald K. Colburn on July 22, 1977 in Galesburg.  She is survived by her husband, Don of Galesburg; one son, Andy (Kim) Lobb of Breese; two brothers, Rich (Linda) Stiles of Fairbury and Mark (Katherine) Stiles of Euless, TX; and two grandsons, Jordan and Tyson.  She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Carol Anne Stiles.
Mary Beth graduated from Costa High School in 1970.  She worked for the City of Galesburg as a clerk for 15 years, retiring on June 1, 2013.  Mary Beth was an avid bowler, loved cats, and most of all she loved spending time with her grandsons, Jordan and Tyson.

Debbie L. Lanham, age 56, of Galesburg, Illinois died 5:10 A.M. on Thursday, September 10, 2015 at her home in Galesburg, Illinois.


She was born on May 29, 1959 in Galesburg, Illinois the daughter of Edward and Rosemarie Halsey Lovett. She attended Galesburg High School in Galesburg, Illinois. She married Aaron B. Lanham on August 12, 1995 in Galesburg, Illinois.

She is survived by her husband, Aaron of Galesburg, Illinois; two sisters, Jane Lovett of Galesburg, Illinois and Cindy Good of Galesburg, Illinois; one brother, Eddie Lovett of Galesburg, Illinois; and eleven nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.

She worked as a waitress and bartender in Galesburg, Illinois and worked for the former Knox Laundry in Galesburg, Illinois.

She enjoyed collecting flowers, plants, miniatures and doll houses.

R. Darrell “Dutch” Page

R. Darrell “Dutch” Page, 88 of Roseville, IL passed away Monday September 14, 2015, 4:00 am, at his home. He was born August 15, 1927 in Prentice, IL the son of Delbert and Beatrice (Nance) Page. He married Darliss Lozier on November 25, 1955 at the Roseville Methodist Church Roseville, IL.

He is survived in death by two children Deborah Farris (Lindsay Kirkpatrick) of Roseville, IL and Darrell (Kathy) Page of Roseville, IL; four grandchildren Julie Farris (William) Brown, Dan (Amy) Farris, Chrissy (Nathan) Wainwright of Fayetteville, AK, and Dain Page Sr. of Oldsmar, FL.; five great grandchildren Schuyler Farris, Dakota (Hannah) Farris, Daniellie “Ellie” Farris, Dain Jr. “Ju Ju” Page, and Eli Wainwright; one great-great granddaughter Sierra Farris; two sisters Donna Beard of Galesburg, IL, and Patsy (Marvin) Carson of Gerlaw, IL; one brother Jerry Page of Plymouth, IL; one sister and brother-in-law Karen and Frank Kelly of Galesburg, IL; several nieces and nephews. He also had his trusted friend Polly his dog. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law (John Beard) and one nephew.

Dutch was raised and educated in Illinois and was an Ag Mechanic. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theater from 1945-1949. He enjoyed attending the grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s sporting events. He was a collector of rocks, cook books, pottery, and lighthouses. He vacationed in the U.S. and Canada. He enjoyed cooking, gardening, grocery shopping and mowing his yard. He was a Bear’s Fan (win or lose).

Funeral Service will be Friday September 18, 2015, at 10:30 am at the Wise Family ~ Hoover Hall Funeral Home Monmouth, IL. Visitation will be Thursday eve September 17, 2015, 5:30-7:30 pm at the Wise Family ~ Hoover Hall Funeral Home Monmouth, IL. Burial will be in the Roseville Memorial Park Cemetery, Roseville, IL.
