Jean E. Berry

Jean E. Berry, age 84, of Galesburg, Illinois died at 6:25 A.M. on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at Rosewood Care Center of Galesburg, Illinois.

She was born on July 4, 1931 in La Plata, Missouri the daughter of Otha J. and Opal M Spence Self. She married Jerald Benjamin in May of 1952 in Dahinda, Illinois. Then she married Robert “Bob” E. Berry on April 17, 1981 in Knoxville, Illinois. He preceded her in death on January 27, 2003.

She is survived one son: Bret (Donna) Benjamin of Knoxville, Illinois; two twin grandsons: Brandon and Nathan Benjamin of Knoxville, Illinois; and two brothers, Bill (Donna) Self of Galesburg, Illinois and Jay (Janet) Self of Hudson, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister, Laura Lou and one brother, James M. Self.

She worked for Galesburg Aviation for 22 years, and then from 1987 until 1995 she assisted her husband in his business Mid America Express before retiring. She enjoyed quilting, crossword puzzles; attending the Red Hat Society meetings, and most of all being with her grandsons and family. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Knoxville, Illinois.

Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes & Crematory in Knoxville, Illinois. Rev. David Shreeves officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until 12:00 Noon on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes & Crematory in Knoxville, Illinois. A Fellowship will take place at the Hurd-Hendricks Fellowship Center following the funeral services before proceeding to the cemetery. Susan Pearl “Susie” Postin

Susan Pearl “Susie” Postin, age 66, of Rural Maquon, Illinois died at 3:00 P.M. on Monday, February 1, 2016 at Care Center of Abingdon, Illinois.

She was born on November 28, 1949 in Peoria, Illinois, the daughter of Leith “Woody” and Gertrude Lee Ward Wooddell. She married Larry “Doc” Postin on August 17, 1969 at the United Methodist Church in Maquon, Illinois.

Surviving is her husband, Larry “Doc” Postin of rural Maquon, Illinois; her mother Gertrude Wooddell of rural Maquon, Illinois; two sons, Chris (Candy) Postin of Abingdon, Illinois and Mike (Heather) Postin of Cuba, Illinois; and one daughter, Mindy Postin of Maquon, Illinois; seven grandchildren, Maisey, Noah, Jaron, Alex, Cassidi, Owen, and Cali; one sister, Diane (Keith) Durdle of rural Maquon, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her father.

Susie worked for the Knox Country Nursing Home for nearly 30 years as a CNA and before her retirement in 2006, she worked in Social Services. Susie was an expert at loving on her children and grandchildren of whom she was so proud. Susie was a passionate animal lover and over the years had many beloved dogs and cats. At one time she was an avid bowler and a Cub Scout Den Mother. She enjoyed many hobbies throughout her life including ceramics, woodworking and needlepoint. She loved tending to her vegetable and flower gardens.  Proficient at surfing the “net”, she loved connecting with friends on Facebook and Farmville. Susie enjoyed playing games like Yahtzee and was a ruthless card player specializing in Gin Rummy and King’s Corner. She was especially proud of her vast collection of wolf figurines and art.  

Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, February 7, 2016 at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes & Crematory in Knoxville, Illinois. Rev. Krey Leesman will officiate. Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, February 7, 2016 at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes & Crematory in Knoxville, Illinois. Interment will be at the Foster Cemetery, rural Fairview, Illinois. Maxine Ruth (James) Allaman

Maxine Ruth (James) Allaman, 92, of Macomb (formerly of Sciota) passed away peacefully at The Elms Nursing Home on Sunday, January 31, 2016 at 1:15 p.m.

Maxine was born January 5, 1924, in Blandinsville, IL to Orville and Francis (Myers) James. She attended Good Hope High School and later worked at the Macomb JC Penney store for several years. Maxine married Bruce Allaman on June 13, 1941 and they were life-long residents and farmers in McDonough County.

Maxine was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many. She will be remembered for her special talents as a pie baker and candy maker by many who knew her. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, cooking, baking, sewing and making crafts.

Maxine was a member of the former Sciota Christian Church where she volunteered in numerous different capacities and also helped prepare many meals served at the Church over the years.

She is survived by: sons, Dennis (Sarah) Allaman of Monmouth, Lonnie Allaman of Macomb and one daughter, Carolyn (David) Bowman of Sciota; 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandson; as well as her brother Merlin (Rosalie) James of LaHarpe.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one great-grandson.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 6^th at 10:30 a.m. at the Good Hope Cemetery and a Celebration of Life will be held at The Annex in LaHarpe, IL 11:30 a.m. where friends and family are invited to share fond memories of Maxine.

Prentice W. McMahill

Prentice W. McMahill, age 71, of Monmouth; passed away at 9:06 pm on Friday January 29, 2016 at OSF St.Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL. Prentice was born on February 10, 1944 in Monmouth, Illinois and is the son of Leo William and Vietta Jane Miller McMahill. He was raised and educated in Monmouth where he attended Harding Elementary and Central Jr. High School. He later in his life obtained his General Education Degree. Prentice entered the United States Army and served the country during Peace Time. He married Roberta Kay Gearhart on May 29, 1967 in Monmouth, and she is currently surviving. Prentice began work at Agar and then Wilson Foods of Monmouth and worked there more than twenty years. He then was employed by Union School and later West Central High School as a bus driver for a number of years. He loved to go fishing, do woodworking, and tinker around the shop. His family and his grandsons were top most in his life. He most enjoyed Bible Education work and enjoyed cleaning and maintaining the Kingdom Hall with Craig and his wife, Roberta. He always attended congregational get-together's. Prentice is survived by his wife, Roberta Kay and his daughter Kerry (Trevis) Riley of Geneseo, Illinois and his son, Craig McMahill at home. He has two grandsons, Kaden and Kaleb. There are two brothers surviving, Vincent (Linda) McMahill of Havana, Illinois and Leroy ( Sherry ) McMahill of Elkville, Illinois. He is preceded in his death by his parents.

A service of remembrance is planned at 1:00 pm on Saturday February 6, 2016 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Monmouth, IL. Cremation has been accorded. Lois Ann Peterson

Lois Ann Peterson, 87, of Galesburg, Illinois passed away Saturday, January 30, 2016 at 8:45 P.M. at Rosewood Care Center in Galesburg, Illinois.

Lois was born on March 3, 1928 in Galesburg, Illinois the daughter of Wallace and Dorothy (Grimm) Alderson. In 1949 she married Theodore Arthur Peterson in Galesburg, Illinois.  Lois worked as a secretary for Wilson Paper Company and Admiral. She was a proud member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Galesburg. She was an avid Chicago Cubs and Shirley Temple fan.  She also enjoyed playing cards and crocheting

Lois is survived by her daughter, Connie Braden of Alexis, Illinois, 3 granddaughters; Amber (and Marc) Muscarello of Texas, Allison (and Steve) Whitcher of Silvis, Illinois, Abby (and Matt) Wiles of Alexis, Illinois, 9 great-grandchildren, and 2 siblings; Nancy (Harvey) Templeton of Galesburg, Illinois and Richard (and Louise) Alderson of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

She was preceded in death by her husband; Theodore Peterson, parents; Wallace and Dorothea Alderson, brother John Alderson, and son-in-law; Glen Braden Jr.

A celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, February 4, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. at the First Church of the Nazarene in Galesburg, Illinois. Rev. Harold Berrian, Rev. Rollie Grauman, and Rev.
