Darla J. Nelson

Darla J. Nelson, age 73 of Galesburg, Ill. died Sunday November 2, 2014 at 1:15 AM at her home.

 

She was born December 7, 1940 in Keokuk, Ia. the daughter of Harold F. and Aileen L. Johnson Altheide. She married Aden L. “Les” Nelson in Abingdon, Ill. March 5, 1960. He preceded her in death November 14, 1999.

 

Darla is survived by one son, Brad (Annella) Nelson of Bossier City, La., one daughter, Beth Jonsberg of Galesburg, Ill.; two sisters, Ann (Robert) Randall of Galesburg, Ill.; and Paula (James) Ray of Boulder City, Nv.; one brother, Phil (Donna) Altheide of Gerlaw, Ill.; three grandchildren, James Michael (Maria “Louie” Cuaresma) Walter, Meredith Eloise Nelson, and Bradley Bennett Nelson; and three great grandchildren, Alex and Mickey Cuaresma, and Lyman James Walter, due in February 2015.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Fred Altheide and Jerry Altheide.

 

She graduated from Avon High School in 1958 and attended Carl Sandburg College. She worked in the Human Resources Department at Butler Manufacturing Company in Galesburg for 41 years retiring in 2003. She was a member of the Tuscarora Club, a former member Altrusa Club and a former member of the Personnel Club of Galesburg. Darla is of the Protestant faith.

 

Left to cherish her memory are a host of friends and family dear to her.

 

Funeral services will be 1:30 pm Wednesday November 5, 2014 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel with a very close friend, Pat Rice officiating. Visitation will be from noon until 1:30 PM.
