Larry F. Hensley

Larry F. Hensley, 71 of Stronghurst, Illinois died at 10:50 p.m. Sunday November 2, 2014 at Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab Center in Stronghurst. He was born April 8, 1943 in Macomb, Illinois, the son of Henry F. and Elma Mae Allshouse Hensley. On March 5, 1967, he married Bonnie Lee McCarty in Vermont, Illinois.
Larry was raised in the Sciota, Illinois area and attended schools in Blandinsville and Sciota. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War and was a recipient of the Purple Heart Medal for injuries received when a land mine exploded near him. He was employed as an assembler at General Electric for fifteen years.

He was a member of the Stronghurst Lions Club, and a former member of the MST Fire Department, JayCees, and Stronghurst Zoning Board. He had helped with Boy Scouts and Habitat For Humanity for many years. He was a member of Monmouth I.O.O.F. Lodge #61 of Monmouth, Illinois and the Macomb Rebekah Lodge # 342 and served in several positions in both of those organizations. He was also a member of the Stronghurst United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, two sons, Scott (Jenny) Hensley of Loraine, IL and Douglas Hensley. Also surviving at seven grandchildren, Shawna, Katie, Samantha, Todd, Jonathon, Tyler and Raven. He was preceded in death by one brother, Henry Hensley.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday November 6, 2014 in the Stronghurst United Methodist Church, with Pastor Karna Peterson officiating. Burial with military rites will follow. Odd Fellows Rites will be held at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Sronghurst, followed by visitation with the family until 8:00 p.m.. Memorials have been established for the Stronghurst United Methodist Church, Odd Fellows-Rebekah Scholarship Fund, Illinois I.O.O.F. Grand Lodge Autistic Fund, and Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab Employees’ Appreciation Fund. Condolences may be left at banksandbeals.com
