Marguerite Audury Burggraff Lamb
passed away peacefully at home on October 8, 2014. She was born in North
Prairie Minnesota on October 26, 1922. She was 18 days shy of her 92nd
birthday.
In World War II, she served in
the U.S. Navy. She was assigned to the office of the Chief of Naval
Operations in Washington D.C.
Marguerite attended University of
Minnesota where she received an associate’s degree in liberal arts. There
she met Jerome J. “Jerry” Lamb while both attended the university under the GI
Bill. They were married on May 15, 1948. Together they resided in
St. Paul, MN, Dubuque, IA, Milwaukee, WI, Grand Rapids, MI, Indianapolis, IN,
Crystal Lake, IL, and Kirkwood, MO before moving to Monmouth in 2003.
Jerry passed away September 17, 2013.
She was a member of Immaculate
Conception Church of Monmouth.
Marguerite had a passion for
gardening. Though she had little formal training she learned what she
knew primarily from her rural background. She worked in flower shops and
garden centers in various locations. She loved to share her gardens with
family and friends. Marguerite also enjoyed preparing and having meals
around a well set table for loved ones to share stories and laughter.
Survivors include her 3 children,
Dennis (Jackie) Lamb of Cary, Patricia Lamb-Neidig of Tucson AZ, and Martha
(Sid) Smith of Monmouth, IL; grandchildren Kelly (Greg) Gilmore of Springfield,
IL; Sam (Dina) Lamb of Vadnais Heights, M;, Kris Neidig of Tucson AZ;
Great-grandchildren, Marguerite, Paul and Adeline Gilmore; brothers Justus Jr. and
Bill Burggraff.
She was preceded in death by her
parents Justus Sr. and Barbara, sister, Bernadette Borman, and brothers Ted,
Adrian, Charles, Henry and Joe Burggraff.
A memorial mass will be held
at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, November 15, 2014 at Immaculate
Conception Church, Monmouth with Fr. Tim Hepner celebrating.
Celebration of life and interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, North
Prairie, MN at a later date. A memorial fund has been established by the
family with proceeds directed to Holy Cross Church and Cemetery in North
