He was born on August 16, 1940 in Abingdon, the son of Cleo R. and Vista K. Anderson Cox.
Bobby
is survived by his loving family, his wife Verna; one daughter,
Kimberly Erickson of Abingdon; three sons, Kevin Cox of Abingdon, Roger
(Gina)VanWinkle of Galesburg and Clint Cox of Abingdon; 6 grandchildren
and 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Judith Simpson of Abingdon and
Janet Nelson of Galesburg; and several nieces and nephews and their
families.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Jeanetta Cox and Beverly Cox.
Bobby lived in the Abingdon area most of his life. He attended
Abingdon schools. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War and was
also stationed in Germany and Texas. He worked as a police officer for
the City of Abingdon and was a school bus driver.
He attended the Church of God of Prophecy in Abingdon. He was a member
of the Horeb Masonic Lodge #363 in Elmwood. His hobbies included
hunting, fishing, restoring John Deere tractors, and camping. He was
also a licensed private pilot.
Funeral service with military rites will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday,
December 18, 2014 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Rev.
Jeremiah Barker will officiate. Cremation will be accorded following
the service. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the
chapel with a masonic service at 7 p.m.
