
Harold K. "Huck" Lumbeck, age 91, of Oquawka, Illinois, died at 12:10 am on Thursday, December 25, 2014 at Oaklane Nursing Home in Stronghurst. He was born on August 6, 1923 in Burlington, Iowa the son of Sigurd N. and Mary Rebecca (McOlgan) Lumbeck. He was reared and educated in Oquawka and Huck was a graduate of Oquawka High School with the class of 1941. Huck proudly served his country as a Private 1st Class in the Marines as a truck driver at Barbers Point Naval Air Station in Hawaii. On June 20, 1948, Huck married Barbara A. Finch in the Oquawka Methodist Church. He began his employment as a truck driver at the IAAP in Burlington, Iowa for 11 years. He then worked at Chicago Cartage Company for 3 years and finished his career at Dohrn Transfer where he retired in 1985 after 30 years of employment. Over his career, he received several safe driving awards. Huck was a member of the Teamsters Local 218, the VFW #7082, the Oquawka Volunteer Fire Department, and served on the Oquawka Village Board. He was named Oquawka Citizen of the Year in 2007. He was a lifelong member of the Oquawka Methodist Church. Huck is survived by his wife Barbara, two sons; Mark (Debbie) Lumbeck and Steven (Kristi) Lumbeck, both of Oquawka, two daughters; LuAnn (Robert) Meyer of Oquawka and Karen (Larry) Edwards of Washington, Iowa, twelve grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka, Illinois. His family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Cremation will be accorded after the service. Memorials have been established for the Oquawka Methodist Church or the Oquawka Volunteer Fire Department.
