Robert Sidney Chandlee,
78, of Galesburg, was called home at 12:10 p.m. Sunday, December 21,
2014.
He was born April 12, 1936
in Williamsfield, Illinois the fourth child of Ellis R. and Mabel M.
(Lewis) Chandlee. He married Patricia Louise Belt on January 2,
1955.
He is survived by his wife
of nearly 60 years, Patricia; five children, Brenda (and Michael)
Philbee, Kerry Chandlee, Robert (and Shelly) Chandlee, and Kimberly
(and Ron) Sevigny, all of Galesburg and Lisa (and Derek) Meeks of Las
Vegas; 18 grandchildren, Jason, Emily, Heather, and Whitney Philbee,
Jesse and Logan Chandlee, Darcy Kaiser, Bryce, Brandon, Bradley,
Sarah, and Landon Chandlee, Collin, Andrew, and Emma Sevigny, and
Danielle, David, and Logan Meeks; 13 great grandchildren; one
great-great grandchild; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He
was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Brett Chandlee in 1981;
and his siblings, Erma Mae Brooks, Roy Ellis Chandlee, Paul Edward
Chandlee, and Carl Wayne Chandlee.
He graduated from
Williamsfield High School in 1954. He worked for Brown Specialty for
10 years and for several vending companies for 12 years before moving
to Arvada, Colorado, where he worked for Nichols Automotive. Upon
returning to Galesburg, he worked for St. Mary’s Square and then in
maintenance for Marigold Health Care Center for 15 years before
retiring. He continued to work as a crossing guard at Nielsen
School. He really enjoyed the children! He was a member of the
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where he held the office
of High Priest.
Visitation will be 6 to 8
p.m. Friday, December 26, 2014 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg
Chapel. Additional visitation will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, December
27, 2014 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints followed
by a funeral service at 11 a.m. Bishop Bruce Polay will officiate.
Burial will be in the Williamsfield Cemetery, his sister Erma Brooks
will be laid to rest with him. Memorial contributions may be made to
the American Cancer Society or the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter
