Mr. Charles E. White age 91
of Galesburg, Ill. died Monday January 26, 2015 at 3:23 PM at Cottage Hospital.
He was born September 8, 1923
in Galesburg, Ill. the son of Austin A. and Goldie Mace White. He married
Garnett A. McGruder in February 1952 in Springfield, Ill. she preceded him in
death November 20, 2005, also preceded by his parents, three brothers Forrest
L. Williams, Chester L. Williams, Vincent Williams, and three sisters Norma
E.M. Ford, Harriet Jackson, C. Beatrice Anson, and one stepdaughter Beverly
Watson.
He is survived by a stepson
Larry and Val Trent of Galesburg, a stepdaughter Winifred and Leroy Mack of
Peoria, Ill., special granddaughter Angela Hunter and special grandson Roland
William both of Galesburg, niece Beverly Thierry of Galesburg, niece Donna
Pulley of Cleveland, Oh, nephew Granston Williams of Ft. Worth, Tx., nephew Dwight
White of Galesburg, niece Verneta Jones of Macomb, Ill., niece Patty Ashby of
Jacksonville, Ill., niece Vicki Olds of Macomb, Ill., nephew Dennis Williams of
Quincy, Ill., and fourteen additional grandchildren and numerous great
grandchildren.
Charles graduated from
Galesburg High School in 1942. He served in the United States Army from
1943-1945. Serving during WWII in Sou Phillipines and Ryukyus and was awarded
two Bronze Stars. He worked in construction and then worked at the Galesburg
Research Hospital for twenty five years retiring in 1985.
He attended the Second
Baptist Church and was a member of the William L. Darrow Masonic Lodge #10 in
Galesburg.
Funeral services will be at 11
AM Saturday February 7, 2015 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel in
Galesburg with Rev. Johnnie Trammell and Rev. Jon Sibley officiating.
Visitation will be Friday evening from 5-7 PM at the chapel. Burial will be in
East Linwood Cemetery. Military Rites will be conducted. Memorials may be made
