Mr. Edward
H. Gross, 88, of Ft. Myers, Florida, formerly of Galesburg, died at
11:48 p.m. Thursday, July 16, 2015 in Shell Point Hospice, Ft. Myers,
Florida.
He was
born September 22, 1926 in Galesburg the son the George and Gertrude
Davis Gross. He married Kedrin H. Harr on December 31, 1971 in
Galesburg. She preceded him in death on February 14, 2011.
He is
preceded in death by his parents and a sister.
Edward
served in the U.S. Navy for two years on the Escort Carrier Sipan as
a Seaman 1st Class
Electronic Technician.
Edward
owned and operated Gross Manufacturing Company. He later sold to
Carhartt in the early 1970’s. He retired in 1990. He graduated
from Galesburg High School in 1944 and Washington University in 1950.
He was one of the founding members of Temple Sholom. Edward served
as Past President of Soangetaha Country Club, a longtime board member
of Galesburg Sanitary District, the Galesburg Chamber of Commerce,
and OSF St. Mary Medical Center Areawide Board.
Private
graveside services are scheduled for Monday, August 24, 2015 at
Brookside Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be
made to the OSF St. Mary Medical Center or Knox College.
Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is handling arrangements.
