Leta F. Bern, age 88 of Galesburg, Illinois died at 8:53 P.M. on
Sunday, August 16, 2015 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital, Galesburg,
Illinois.
She was born on March 23, 1927 in Lewistown, Missouri
the daughter of Wayne and Jewel Richmond Daughtery. She married Howard
Bern on August 4, 1945 in Galesburg, Illinois. He preceded her in death
on November 3, 1988.
Surviving are two daughters: Sherry
(Dennis) Shea of Galesburg, Illinois and Sandy (Jeff) Spencer of
Knoxville, Illinois; five grandchildren: Rick Klossing, Tim Klossing,
James Bradford, Melissa Guthrie and David Bradford; six great
grandchildren: Brenna Knott, Elizabeth Klossing, Brenden Guthrie, Kyle
Bradford, Dalton Klossing, and Emily Klossing; one step-great
granddaughter: Kelcey Bradford; one half-sister, Suzanne Manthe of
Leavenworth, Kansas; and two nephews, J. D. and Ron Miles; one niece,
Linda (George) Marjan; and one great nephew, Jimmy Miles. She was
preceded in death by her parents, husband and one sister, Irene Miles.
She
was a member of the Calvary Assembly of God Church in Galesburg,
Illinois for over 60 years and taught Sunday school for over 32 years.
She enjoyed gardening, working in her yard, baking cakes and cookies,
and going to auctions. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great
grandmother and friend. She will be greatly missed by her friends and
family. She loved her dogs, Jake, Lexie, and Sadie.
Graveside
services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at Oak
Lawn Memorial Gardens in Galesburg, Illinois. Rev. Dan Penn will
officiate. In-lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family.
