Mattie Belle Steele

Mrs. Mattie Belle Steele age 87 of Galesburg, Ill. died Sunday August 9, 2015 at 9:10 a.m. at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Ill.

She was born July 6, 1928 in Galesburg, Ill. the daughter of George W. and Mattie F. Carmichael Breckenridge. She married Robert E. Steele in Galesburg, Ill. on August 27, 1950.

Mattie Belle is survived by her loving husband Robert of sixty five years, one son William E. and Kim Steele of Verona, Wi., three daughters Karen and John Rice of Galesburg, Ill., Linda Tkach of Galesburg, Ill., and Julie and Don Mettler of Kenosha Wi., nine grandchildren Jason, Sean, Scott, Ryan, Daniel, Cory, Kristin, Lacie, and Megan, ten great grandchildren and one due in October.

She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1946. She worked for the First Galesburg National Bank as a statement clerk for 15 years retiring in 1986. Mattie was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday August 13, 2015 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Glen Bocox officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
