Clarence L. "Tom" Long

Clarence L. "Tom" Long, age 79, of Cameron, Illinois, passed away at 8:11 am on Thursday, November 26, 2015 at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois. 
 
Tom was born on October 24, 1936 in Monmouth, IL, the son of A. Lewis and K. Frances (Shimmin) Long. He was reared and educated in the Monmouth area, graduating from Monmouth High School. He later attended North Central College. On December 8, 1956, Tom married Marjorie A. Hein in Racine, WI and she is surviving. Tom was a 3rd generation grain farmer in Warren County succeeded by his sons. He was very active in his community and Church, serving as President of the Warren/Henderson Farm Bureau, Rotary Club where he was a Paul Harris Fellow, FS and YMCA Board of Directors, and the Lake Warren Board. He held many offices at the Fairview United Methodist Church where he was an active member. Tom enjoyed sports and games with his family. He will be remembered as a great family man. 
 
Tom is survived by his wife, Marjorie Long of Cameron, IL, two daughters; Cheryl (Karl) Kuppler of Peoria, IL and Cynthia A. (Tom) Pepmeyer of Galesburg, IL, two sons; Craig (Kimberly) Long of rural Monmouth, IL and Chad (Lindsay) Long of rural Monmouth, IL, nine grandchildren; Katie (Matt) Wavering, Mary Kuppler, Scott Pepmeyer, Doug Pepmeyer, Michael Long, Kelly Long, Gina Long, Cohen Long, and Carsyn Long, two great-grandchildren; Bella Wavering and Charlie Wavering, three brothers; D. Lynn (Dorothy) Long J. Lowell (Dee) Long, and Benjamin L. (Joyce) Long. He is preceded in death by his parents.

A funeral service is planned for 10:00 am on Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at Fairview Center United Methodist Church. Visitation is planned from 4:00-7:00 pm on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. Interment will be at Warren County Memorial Park in Monmouth. Memorial funds are being established for Fairview United Methodist Church or the A. Lewis Long Carl Sandburg Scholarship Fund.
