Leroy Rice, age 75, passed away at 4:05 pm on Thursday, December 3, 2015 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. He was born on July 10, 1940, the son of Warren Jefferson and Mildred Alley (Leah) Rice. Leroy was reared and educated in Bethany, MO and graduated from Bethany High School with the Class of 1958. He proudly served his Country in the United States Air Force, attaining the rank of E-3. On December 11, 1964, Warren married Nancy Deane Redinger in Bethany, MO and she preceded him in death on December 16, 1993. Leroy first was employed at Davis Snyder Quarry in Bethany, MO where he was a driver and equipment operator. He then worked as the Superintendent of the Spring Sand Plant in Burlington, IA for 28 years until his retirement in 2003. Leroy enjoyed woodworking and craft making and completed many projects with his wife Nancy. He enjoyed going to Gibb's 66 and telling lies with his buddies. Leroy is survived by one daughter, Tara Beth (Gina) Rice of Allen, TX, three sons; Dave (April) Rice of Burlington, IA, Jeff (Brenda) Rice of Ottumwa, IA, Don (Diane) Rice of Oquawka, IL, and one sister, Robert (Dennis) Skinner of Warsaw, MO. He is also survived by six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Nancy, and one sister.
A funeral service is planned for 1:30 pm on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Biggsville, Illinois. A visitation is planned from 5:00-7:00 pm on Monday, December 7, 2015 at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Biggsville Township Cemetery.
