BERNICE E. ZIEGENHORN

Mrs. Bernice E. Ziegenhorn, 94, of Galesburg, Illinois died at 12:01 pm Sunday, January 3, 2016 in Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville, Illinois.

She was born February 23, 1921 in LaHarpe, Illinois the daughter of Albert and Alma Lund Anderson. She married Kenneth M. Ziegenhorn on October 3, 1942 in Palmyra, Missouri. He preceded her in death on February 20, 1999.

She is survived by three sons, Dennis M. (and Lisa) Ziegenhorn of Pekin, Illinois, James K. (and Barb) Ziegenhorn of Orion, Illinois and Michael A. Ziegenhorn of Galesburg; three daughters, Jean (and Rick) Van Beveran of Desert Hot Springs, California, Laura Ann (and Steve) Fox of Knoxville, Illinois and Alice E. (and Tim) Esp of Viola, Illinois; twelve grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two grandsons, Troy Ziegenhorn and Eric Theobald, one great granddaughter, Caitlyn Elizabeth Fox; three brothers, Wendell Anderson, Bud Anderson, John Richard Anderson and two sisters, Helen Householder and Norma Jean Anderson.

Bernice was a teacher in Drury Township in Rock Island County for 7 years. She then worked as a pre-school teacher at Grace Episcopal Church 10 years. She later worked in the office for Rowe Manufacturing for 8 years. Bernice had also worked for Sears and JCPenneys for 10 years. She graduated from LaHarpe High School in 1938 and Western Illinois University in 1940. She was a very active member of Bethel Baptist Church and their activities.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 am Friday, January 8, 2016 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Lee Johnson will officiate. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 pm Thursday, January 7, 2016 at the chapel. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the Knox County Nursing Home.
