Francis Milton Mitchell

Francis Milton Mitchell, 82, of Abingdon, IL passed away at 8:24 AM Tuesday January 5, 2016 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital. He was born January 27, 1933 to Merritt and Mildred (Tracy) Mitchell in Avon, IL. He married Marlene Mae Scalf in Avon, IL on June 2, 1951. She survives. 

Also surviving are five children, Tracy Mitchell of Knoxville, TN; Debbie (Bruce) Hahn of St. Augustine, IL; Kevin Mitchell of Cookeville, TN; Marvin Mitchell of Abingdon, IL; Ramona (Paul) Jacobson of Galesburg, IL; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; one uncle Edward Mitchell of Moline, IL; one sister-in-law Margaret Mitchell of Bettendorf, IA; one nephew and two nieces. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister June Mitchell; one brother Merritt Keith Mitchell and one daughter-in-law Diane Mitchell. 

Francis owned and operated Spoon River Well Drilling which later became Mitchell Well Drilling for over 15 years. He enjoyed playing pool and cards especially the game of pitch. 

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM Friday January 8, 2016 at the Avon Cemetery with Pastor Jim Eddy officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project. Corman Memorial Home of Avon is in charge of arrangements.
