Luella Jean "Sis" Bowen


Luella Jean "Sis" Bowen, age 92 of Media, Illinois passed away at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday January 26, 2016 at her home. She was born January 19, 1924 in Kirkwood, Illinois, the daughter of Floyd A. and Gladys M. Littrel Link. On October 6, 1945, she married Frank Wendell Bowen, They later divorced.

"Sis" was a graduate of Media-Wever High School and lived in the Media area all of her life. She had worked for several years at the Iowa Army Ammunitions Plant in Middletown, IA, Sylvania Corp. In Burlington, Fisher’s Jack & Jill Food Center in Stronghurst, and owned and operated Rod’s 66 Service Station in Media. She enjoyed outings with the "Weverettes", and loved her family, friends and traveling. She was a member of the Media Community United Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Patti (Steve) Bowen of Smithshire, IL, one son Rodney (Ruby) Bowen of Raritan, Il, two grandchildren, Danielle and Garrett Bowen, six great grandchildren, Ember, Lacey, William, and Lilly Bowen, Jesslyn an Skyler Sours, two great great grandsons, Aydenn and Jentry Dean, one sister, Phyllis (Chuck) Cole of Media, and one brother, Kenneth Link of Tempe, AZ. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, William, Glen, Charles, and Harvey Link, and two sisters, Laura Link and Louise Cole.

The funeral service for Luella "Sis" Bowen will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday January 30, 2016 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst, with Phil Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in the Walnut Grove Cemetery, near Media. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established for the Media Community United Presbyterian Church , or to the charity of the donor’s choice. Condolences may be left at banksandbeals.com.
