MARJORIE J.SWANSON


Marjorie Swanson, 88, of Woodridge Assisted Living, Galesburg, passed away at 5:05 p.m. on Monday, January 4, 2016 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center. 

She was born July 8, 1927 in Monmouth, Illinois to William Oscar and Rena D. Jacobs Fillman. She married Harry Harrison in 1947. She later married Courtney Swanson in 1953. He preceded her in death on March 26, 1994.

She is survived by her two sons, Steve (and Nancy) Harrison of Casa Grande, Arizona, and Ken Swanson of Galesburg; four grandchildren, Ryan Harrison of Wake Forest, North Carolina, Michael (and Melody) Harrison of Rathdrum, Idaho, K.C. Swanson of Carlsbad, California, and Melissa Swanson, of NATO Air Base in Geilenkirchen Germany; two great-granddaughters, Gracelyn and Annabelle Harrison, Rathdrum, Idaho; and a nephew, Donald Fillman of Houston, Texas.  She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Roy and Floyd Fillman.

In addition to being a homemaker, Marge worked at Illinois Power, Galesburg Schools, Wilkinson's Office Supply and Churchill Chemical. Marjorie was raised in the Kirkwood and Monmouth area before moving to Galesburg in 1947.  She graduated from Monmouth High School in 1945.  Marjorie was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Galesburg.  She served as the treasurer of the United Methodist Women and was a member of the Patience Circle of the Church.  She was a long time member of a sewing club and past correspondence secretary of the Galesburg Women’s Club.  Marjorie was a volunteer at Galesburg Cottage Hospital starting in 1987 and a volunteer for the Cottage Corner.  She was a member of the Knox County Home Extension. She loved potlucks, playing cards and visiting with her friends, and was an avid fan of Galesburg area athletics.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:30 pm Monday, January 11, 2016 at Hinchliff-Pearson–West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Mary Runge will officiate.  Visitation will be 12:30-1:30 pm Monday at the chapel. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Galesburg.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
