Maureen A. "Moe" Brown, age 71, of Oquawka, Illinois passed away at 3:09pm on February 14, 2016 at Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab in Stronghurst, Illinois. Maureen was born on January 6, 1945 to Francis Joseph & Phyllis Marie (McOlgan) Haney. She received her primary education at the Oquawka Schools & was a member of the first graduating class of Union High School. She also attended Western Illinois University for a short time. On May 10, 1968, Moe married James R. Brown in Hamilton, Illinois. She was employed locally in Iowa & Illinois before purchasing The Fisherman’s Inn in Oquawka. For years Moe enjoyed serving her locally famous food, her special mix of "RuckusRun" fun & supporting her family, friends & patrons, all of whom she loved dearly. She enjoyed all aspects of art including drawing, sketching, painting & stained glass. Some of her hobbies included gardening, fishing, movies, going to yard sales & shooting handguns. She will be remembered as a self-sufficient woman who loved to complete projects in & around her home & business. Moe is survived by her three daughters; Deborah A. Felt, Burlington, IA, Molly M. (Stephen) Jones, Oquawka, IL & Jamie M. (Jerad) Sibley-Johnson also of Oquawka, five grandchildren; Hailey, Alicia, Allison, Grant & Drew, and one brother, Michael (Elizabeth) Haney of Chapin, SC. Three great-grandchildren & numerous nieces & nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Patrick & her son-in-law Matt Sibley.
A funeral service is planned for 1:00pm on Friday, February 19, 2016 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka, IL. Her family will be present to receive friends from 11:00am-1:00pm prior to the service. Interment will follow at the Oquawka Cemetery. A memorial fund is being established for the family.
