Donna Marlene Caslin


Donna Marlene Caslin, 82, of 305 N. Henderson Rd., Alexis, IL, died Monday at Knox County Nursing Home in Knoxville, IL.  She was born June 30, 1933, at Hawcreek Township, Knox County, IL, daughter of Louise Gertrude Daily Woolsey and Dorrence D. Woolsey. 
She was raised and educated in Gilson and Galesburg, IL.  She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1951. She married Lt. William E. Caslin, USMC, at St. Ann's Church in Edenton, North Carolina, on April 9, 1953.
Marlene was an avid reader and enjoyed making floral arrangements. She loved to play card games and bingo and enjoyed country music, particularly George Strait. She owned and operated Village Flower and Gift Shop in Alexis, prior to joining The Fashion Tree in Alexis, working for her lifelong friend, Lois Winkler. During her husband’s military career, she traveled extensively around the country and was actively involved in base activities, including serving as head of the Officers’ Wives Club. She was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church and Alexis Women's Club.
She is survived by her Husband: Lt. Col. William E. Caslin (USMC retired); her sons Michael W. Caslin (wife: Bonnie), Patrick David Caslin; and Daughter Susan E. Caslin; Her Grandchildren Jennifer, Chris, Betsy (deceased), Brian, Molly; 7 Great-grandchildren;  3Great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Granddaughter, Betsy Caslin and her sister, Bonnie J. Hodgson.
Memorial Service will be held Sunday March 20, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Wise Family Hoover Hall Funeral Home in Alexis, IL where visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Knox County Nursing Home’s Alzheimer’s Unit, 800 N. Market Street, Knoxville, IL 61448 or to the Alexis Volunteer Fire Department.
