Alfred Leroy Hayden

Mr. Alfred Leroy Hayden, 85, of Galesburg died at 7:10 am Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at Heartland Health Care Center. 

He was born November 20, 1930 in Galesburg the son of Alfred Maple and Anna Margaret Heath Hayden. He married Alpha Gay Howland on November 5, 1950 in Galesburg.

Alfred is survived by his wife of 65 years, Alpha; his two sons, Alfred A. and Vickie Hayden of Dahinda, Illinois and Tim L. and Marcy Hayden of Pearland, Texas; two brothers, Ronald D. and Jan Hayden of Napa, California and David A. and Suzanne Hayden of Spring, Texas; his sister, Shirley A. Hayden Boice of Galesburg; two grandchildren, Heather and Andy Galbreath and Amy and Pete Spencer and four great grandchildren, Eileen and Elliott Spencer and Hayden and Aubry Galbreath. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Alfred worked as a Carman for the former CB & Q Railroad, now Burlington Northern Railroad for over 44 years. He also had worked as a car foreman from 1960-1969 in Denver, Colorado. He retired in November of 1992. He graduated from Woodhull High school in 1948.  Alfred served as president for the Carman’s Local Union.  He was a member of the Galesburg Bass Masters Club. He was a member of First Lutheran Church. Alfred enjoyed fishing and gardening. He was a dedicated husband, father and family man.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 am Saturday, March 19, 2016 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Pamela Marolla will officiate. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 pm Friday March 18, 2016 at the chapel. Burial will be in Oneida Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church.
