Verna L. Johansen, 85, of
Galesburg, died at 12:55 p.m. Sunday, March 13, 2016, in Heartland Health Care
Center.
She was born November 12,
1930 in Galesburg, the daughter of Oscar and Amanda (Carlson) Larson. She married Ray G. Johansen on June 23, 1957
in Galesburg. He preceded her in death
March 15, 2010.
She is survived by a son,
Scott (and Catherine) Johansen of Aurora; a daughter, Renay (and George) Johansen
Slifka of Brookfield; two granddaughters, Lindsay and Anne Johansen; and a
sister-in-law, Vonna Lou Larson of Dunlap.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents,
two brothers, Russell and Lloyd Larson; and a sister, Irma Larson.
Verna had worked for the
federal government with Social Security, the Internal Revenue Service, and the
Department of the Army. She was also a
homemaker and assisted her husband with his business, Ray’s Hobby Shop. Verna was an active member of Grace Anglican
Church, where she was a member of the St. Margaret’s Guild. She was also a member of the National
Association of Federal Retirees and Beta Sigma Phi, Gamma Rho Chapter.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. to
noon Thursday, March 17, 2016 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Funeral service will follow at noon in the
chapel with Rev. Andy Ainley officiating.
Burial will follow in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in
