Betty W. Lewis, 93, of Monmouth, passed away at 7:15 p.m., Sunday, April 10, 2016 at Monmouth Nursing Home, Monmouth.
She was born January 6, 1923 in Adams County, IL, the daughter of Vernon and Mary Jane (Parrack) Dunbar. She enjoyed school and graduated from the Colpitt School.
Betty married George B. Lewis on January 5, 1941 in Burlington, IA and he passed away on August 3, 1989.
Betty was employed at Barnes Grocery in the meat department and later was employed for 23 years at Meling’s Restaurant. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Monmouth and was for many years the Chairman for the church’s cookie ministry. She was also a member of the Lamp Lighter Sunday School Class, the Christian Keenagers and the Monmouth Travel Club. She loved traveling, reading, cooking and especially loved pie making.
Survivors include her two sons, Robert (LaVonne) Lewis of Quincy, IL and Mick (Cindy) Lewis of Monmouth; 5 grandchildren, Rodney (Glenda) Lewis, Ronnie (Karen) Lewis and Kelly Lewis all of Quincy, IL, Amy (Jeff) Romano of St. Louis, MO and Adam Lewis of Macomb, IL; 8 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren; 1 sister, Twila Morgan of the Quad Cities; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 3 brothers, 5 sisters and 1 half-sister.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 16, 2016 at McGuire-Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth. Interment will be at Warren County Memorial Park. Visitation will be Saturday morning from 9:30-10:30. Memorials may be given to the Warren County United Way or the First Christian Church of Monmouth.
