Eleanor R. Thurman, 87 of Abingdon, passed away at 1:25 a.m. Saturday, April 16, 2016 at the Care Center of Abingdon with her family at her side.
She was born September 25, 1928 in Dixon, the daughter of Harland and Eleanor Ruth Weberg Bishop. She married Wilbur “Web” Harris Thurman on October 19, 1946 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on May 2, 1989. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one son, Jeff Thurman, one daughter, Cathy Thomas and two brothers, Delbert Bishop and Chester Bishop.
Eleanor is survived by two daughters, Connie Siedel of Abingdon and Sandra (Cecil) Ruggles of Abingdon; five granddaughters, Shelley Bullock, Sherry Healey, Sonita Siedel, Jill Patrick, and Jennifer Sholl, and two grandsons, Bob Siedel and Brian Thurman; and several great-grandchildren.
She lived most of her life in the London Mills and Abingdon areas. She graduated from Abingdon High School. She worked as an assembler for 25 years at Admiral/Maytag in Galesburg, retiring in 1989. She enjoyed watching television, bowling, roller skating, and square dancing. Chocolate candies were her favorite.
Cremation will be accorded. Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at the Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel.
