Karen R. Costner


Karen R. Costner, age 63, of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away at 11:05 pm at her residence on Sunday, April 3, 2016. She was born on February 12, 1953 in Hawthorn, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Quay and Charlotte (Kammedeiner) Doverspike. At the age of eight, Karen and her family moved to California and she attended school there. She graduated from Newport Harbor High School with the Class of 1970. On March 12, 1971, Karen married David M. Costner, Sr. in Newport Beach and he is surviving. In her early years, Karen babysat and worked as a caretaker for seniors. She later worked at Mr. "C"s Rare Records in the antique district of Orange, CA. and as a "lunch lady" in the Orange Unified School District. Upon moving to the Monmouth area, Karen was a loving housewife and Nana. She loved reading, cooking, gardening, growing vegetables and canning her harvests. 

Karen is survived by her husband Dave, two daughters; Brandie Marsh of Kingman, AZ and Andrea Costner of Monmouth, IL, one son; David Costner, Jr. of Monmouth, IL, grandchildren; Joshua Schonfeldt, Alayna Costner, Caity Costner, and Keegan Schonfeldt, two sisters; Verna (Mark) Valdez of Orange, CA, Alice (Briane) Schonfeldt of Newport Beach, CA, and her special friend, Kathleen Prussman of Muscatine, IA. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Karen is preceded in death by her parents.

A funeral service is planned for 10:00 AM on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, IL. Her family will be present for visitation from 5:00-7:00 PM on Friday, April 8, 2016 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Warren County Memorial Park.
