David L. Thompson


David L. Thompson, age 61, of Gladstone, Illinois, passed away at 3:05 PM on Sunday, May 1, 2016 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois. He was born on August 12, 1954 in LaHarpe, Illinois, the son of Daryl L. "Pete" and Carolyn L. (Bowlyou)Thompson. Dave was educated in the Dallas City area and graduated from Union High School with the Class of 1973. He also attended P.T.I. schooling in Springfield, Illinois. Dave served as a County Sheriffs Deputy in Mercer County for 18 years. While in Mercer County, he also served the Coroner's office. Dave served as a Henderson County Sheriffs Deputy for 23 years retiring in 2014. He owned and operated his own construction business. Dave enjoyed planting trees, attending auctions, collecting old cars, and collecting coins. He loved to shop at Menard's and Lowe's and "kept them in business" as he liked to say. He always had a smile on his face. Dave is survived by his mother, Carolyn Thompson, his lifelong companion, Josie Goben, son David Daryl Thompson of Cleveland, IL, two daughters; Karrie M. (Michael Mackey) Thompson of Little York, IL and Kimberly S. (Bob) Brito of Tucson, AZ, two brothers; Stephen L. (Tina) Thompson and Michael R. (Lisa) Thompson, both of Oquawka, IL, one sister, Kathy L. (Mark) Ray of Mt. Green, UT, and six grandchildren; Hunter G. Thompson, Aubrey J. Thompson, Braxton David Thompson, Marci (Kyle) Brito, Lianne (Kyle) Strand, and Kristian Falenski. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. He his preceded in death by his grandparents, father, daughter Lori Falenski, and brother Daryld Lee Thompson.

A funeral service is planned for 11:00 AM on Friday, May 6, 2016 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka, Illinois. His family will receive friends at the funeral home from 9:00-11:00 AM prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Oquawka Cemetery. A memorial fund is being established for the Oquawka "Toy Drive" program or a donation to a charity of the donors choice in Dave's name.
