Marjorie A. “Marge” Johnson,
83, of Wataga, died at 6:50 a.m. Sunday, May 1, 2016, in Seminary Manor.
She was born August 31, 1932
in Galesburg, the daughter of Gus and Judith (Johnson) Franden. She married Robert Jacobs. He preceded her in death. She later married Alvin Johnson on February
22, 1964 in Galesburg.
She is survived by her
husband of 52 years, Alvin; two sons, David (and Vicki) Jacobs of Rio, Illinois
and John (and Laurie) Jacobs of Sturgis, Michigan; two daughters, Christine
(and John) Hoosen of Wataga, Illinois and Linnea (and Bill) Ryan of
Libertyville, Illinois; eight grandchildren; and one great grandchild on the
way. In addition to her first husband,
she was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, and one sister.
Marge graduated from
Galesburg High School in 1950 and attended Brown’s Business College. Marge was a secretary at St. Mary’s Hospital
for many years. She also was a homemaker
and helped on the family farm. She was
the co-owner of The Peddlers Three in Knoxville for several years and had
served as the Henderson Township clerk.
She was a member of Messiah
Lutheran Church in Henderson Grove. Marge
was deeply involved in China painting.
She enjoyed teaching the art and was past state president of the World
Organization of China Painters. Marge
also enjoyed golfing, bowling, crafting, and knitting. She was an avid reader.
Visitation will be 5 to 7
p.m. Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at
the chapel with Rev. Kurt Carlsen officiating.
Burial will follow in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions in Marge’s name may be
