Warren C. Stevens, 101, of
Altona, died at 5:40 p.m. Sunday, May 1, 2016 in Rosewood Care Center in
Galesburg.
He was born December 1, 1914,
in Seaton, Illinois, the son of Howard W. and Mary (Munson) Stevens. He married Nellie A. Shay on February 27,
1938 in Galesburg. She preceded him in
death August 31, 1992.
He is survived by a son,
Richard W. (and Janice) Stevens of Henderson; two daughters, Beverly (and
James) Gray of Aledo and Peggy (and James) McKillip of Peoria; 13
grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in
death by a daughter, Carol Spencer on November 4, 1995; one granddaughter, Anne
Sperry; one great grandson, Paul Winter; and six brothers and sisters, Carrie,
Charles, Floyd, Fern, Mabel, and Lester.
His elementary years were
spent in Crandon, Wisconsin. He
graduated from Knoxville High School in 1932.
Warren was a farmer his entire life.
He lived in the Gilson area for many years and in the Altona area since
1974. Warren was a member of the
Flemish-American Club in Kewanee and the Knox County Farm Bureau. He and Nellie attended many Bluegrass Music Festivals.
His family would like to
thank the staff at Rosewood Care Center of Galesburg and Beacon of Hope Hospice
for the wonderful care they gave to Warren for the last few years of his life.
Visitation will be 4 to 6
p.m. Saturday, May 14, 2016 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday, May
15, 2016 at the chapel. Peggy McKillip
will officiate. Burial will follow in
Wataga Cemetery. Memorial contributions
