Rosina (Rosie) Anthony Goe,
maiden name Ippolito, died peacefully, Saturday June 11, 2016 in Chattanooga,
Tennessee at the age of 82.
Her
new mission takes her to a wonderful place where she will be socializing,
laughing and continuing her good works.
Mrs.
Goe is survived by her three children, Charlie Goe, Sammy Goe and Gino Goe, her
four siblings, Helen Martin Ippolito, Angela Ippolito Cross, Louisa Ippolito
and Andrew Ippolito, two nieces and one nephew; ten grandchildren, one great
grandchild and two step-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband,
Charles S. Goe, her parents, Maria and Arsenio Ippolito and sister, Catherine
Ippolito.
Born
in Abingdon, Illinois, Mrs. Goe attended Abingdon High School. Soon after graduating
in 1950, she applied and was accepted into Saint Francis Medical Center College
of Nursing in Peoria, Illinois, graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in
Nursing
She
began her nursing career at Saint Francis Hospital; during that time she met,
her future husband, Charles S. Goe’. After their marriage, they resided in
Peoria, Illinois where they raised their three sons, instilling in each one
strong family values, while encouraging them to pursue their individual goals.
Mrs.
Goe was a dedicated nurse; fiercely proud of her profession. Upon graduation,
she considered her ‘pinning ceremony’ and nurse’s pledge, to be sacred and
unbreakable. Each patient she cared for, touched, administered to, felt that
un-wavering dedication to their well-being.
Always
an active member of the Catholic Church, she became an acolyte, assisting in
the rites of Holy Communion. Mrs. Goe volunteered at the information desk at
Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga. Through the St. Stephens Church Charities,
she spent time knitting blankets and collecting clothes for the poor in the
Appalachian communities.
She
loved traveling; and after her husbands’ death spent time visiting her family
in California, Arizona and Tennessee. She especially enjoyed her trips abroad; touring
Italy and visiting family and friends there.
Settling
in Chattanooga, near her eldest son, enjoying her retirement years, she
welcomed frequent visits from life-long friends. Mrs. Goe’s love of family was
evident throughout her life; happiest when surrounded by her loving
grandchildren.
After
an automobile accident where she was severely injured, Mrs. Goe resided at
Standifer Place in Chattanooga. In the last nine years, despite the
accident, Mrs. Goe carried on courageously, determined to continue her life’s
work – being there for those in need. Her wheel chair antics became legendary
in the care facility, as she traversed the halls, visiting patients, giving
advice and encouraging her fellow patients to join her in the recreation room
to work on puzzles. She is a great hugger and with her genuine warm smile she
made sure everyone was accounted for; looking in on patients, worrying about
each friend’s health. Not surprisingly, many referred to her as ‘Mayor of
Standifer Place’.
Her
family wishes to thank the dedicated doctors, nurses and caregivers who cared
for her every day with love and compassion.
Cremation
was accorded. Private burial of her cremated remains will be in the
Abingdon Cemetery on Friday, July 15, 2016. Memorial Mass will be held at
10:30 a.m. Friday, July 15, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 506 N. Main
St., Abingdon, Illinois. Father Michael Pica will officiate.
Fellowship and food will follow the service in the church fellowship
area. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is assisting the family with
local arrangements. Online condolences may be made at
