Eldon L. Cox, age 64 of Lomax, Illinois, formerly of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away at 4:23 a.m. Monday July 4, 2016 at his home following a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born November 10, 1951 in LaHarpe, IL, the son of Thurman E. "Dick" and Mable E Good Cox. He married Brenda Langworthy in June of 1982 in Chippewa Falls, WI. They later divorced.
Eldon was a graduate of Stronghurst High School and attended Parkland Community College in Champaign, IL, and the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire. He later received a Masters Degree in Vocational Rehabilitation from Northern Illinois University in Dekalb, IL. He worked for many years at Alpha Pointe in Kansas City. He was a member and office holder of the American Council Of The Blind and the Missouri Council of the Blind.
Survivors include two daughters, Lori (Mark) Potts of Chippewa Falls, WI, Julie (Jason) Marten of Mondovi, WI, three grandchildren, Alyssa Potts, Joseph and Jackson Marten, one sister, Dixie (Jack) Todd of Lomax, IL, two nieces, Kim (Mike) Peters of Lomax, Heather Todd, one nephew, Wes (Shelly) Todd of Stronghurst, one great niece Jessica Todd, three great nephews, Jacob, Zachary and Lucas Todd, one great great niece, Harper Todd, and his special friend, Barbara Dewberry of Kansas City, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Private family graveside services will be held Friday July 6, 2016 at Carman Cemetery with Rev. Rick Goettsche officiating. No visitation is planned. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Missouri Council Of The Blind. Banks & Beals Funeral Home of Stronghurst is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be left at banksandbeals.com.
