Lawrence C. Brokaw, age
82 of Raritan, Illinois passed away Monday July 4, 2016 at Rosewood Care Center
in Galesburg, Illinois. He was born May 23, 1934 in Burlington, Iowa, the son
of Russell and Mala Calhoun Brokaw. On July 16, 1961, he married Alta Mae Harden
in Raritan. She preceded him in death on October 29, 2015.
Lawrence was a graduate
of Media-Wever High School and served in the United States Army from 1953 to
1956. He farmed for a short time, then was employed at Admiral/Maytag in
Galesburg for 35 years. He was a member of the Stronghurst American Legion and
Tri-County Saddle Club.
Survivors include one
sister, Hazel Francis of Taylor Ridge, IL, a sister in law, Alice Brokaw of
Stronghurst, a brother in law and sister in law, Duane and Norma Harden of
Stronghurst, 18 nieces and nephews, and several great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, one brother, William Brokaw, and five
sisters, Ethel Mala Kirkland, Ruth Brokaw, Helen Heikes, Carolyn White, and
Frances Wells.
Visitation will be from
5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday July 8, 2016 in the
Raritan Baptist Church with Pastor Greg McClintock and Deacon Lee Brokaw
officiating. Burial, with military rites, will follow in the Raritan Cemetery.
