Geraldine
K. (Roloff) Yung, 86, of Alexis, IL, passed away at 5:06 a.m., Saturday, August
27, 2016 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.
She
was born on January 15, 1930 near Waverly, IA, the daughter of Arthur Friedrich
and Helen Dorothea (Mueller) Roloff. She
was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Waverly. After attending St. Paul’s Parochial School,
she graduated from Waverly High School in 1947.
Geraldine continued her education at a vocational school in Omaha,
NE.
Following
her education, Gerry accepted a position with the government working for the
FBI in Washington D.C. While there she
met Russell Osborne, who was in the United States Army Air Corps, and they were
married on July 16, 1947.
Gerry
worked for the Department of Defense in Cedar Rapids. She also worked at the Waverly Sale Barn as a
cashier in the lunchroom where they had horse sales. It was there she met Lawrence Yung from
Alexis, IL. They were married on August
21, 1971. He preceded her in death on October
3, 1994.
Gerry
was a homemaker and assisted Lawrence on the farm raising Belgian horses, Hereford
Cattle, and hogs for 23 years. In November
of 1996, Gerry moved from the farm to Alexis.
She enjoyed Iowa Hawkeye sports and spending time with her grandchildren
and great grandchildren. Gerry was known
for her great cooking. She attended
Alexis Presbyterian Church and was active in the church woman’s club.
She
is survived by her children, Janet Kincade of Grundy Center, IA, Roger
(Margaret) Osborne of Grundy Center, IA, Patricia (John) Kirkemo of Galesburg,
IL, and Debra (James) McCarrell of Chapman, KS.
Her step children, Frank (Mary) Yung of North Henderson, IL, Pearl
(David) Smith of Monmouth, IL , and Bernice (Greg) Errion of Collierville, TN. Also surviving are twelve grandchildren,
twenty three great grandchildren, and dear friend, Bertha Dublo.
She
was preceded in death by both husbands and one brother Harlan Roloff.
