Helen I. Broeg, age 83, of Oquawka, Illinois passed away at 4:00 am on
September 22, 2016 at her Oquawka residence. Helen was born on January 31, 1933
on a farm near Joy, Illinois and is the daughter of Clarence and Beulah Nesbitt
Weeks. She was raised in Aledo, where she attended local schools and graduated
from the Aledo High School in 1951. Helen first was married to Warren Mattson on
June 9, 1996 in Reno, Nevada and he passed away. She later married Paul Broeg
and he also has preceded her in death. Helen was employed as dispatcher for
consolidated "Freightways" formerly of Burlington, Iowa. She has been retired
since 1990. She enjoyed Sewing, Quilting, and Crocheting, Camping, as well as
her garden and gardening. She is survived by her daughters, Becky (Robert)
Maynard of Aledo, Illinois; and Kelly (Jack) Kindig of Oquawka, Illinois. Three
sons survive, Brian Mattson of Moline, Illinois; Blaine (Tammy) Mattson of
Oquawka, Illinois; and Bobby (LuAnn) Mattson of Oquawka, Illinois. One step son,
Jerry (Connie) Mattson of Aledo, Illinois. There are ten grandchildren and nine
great grandchildren surviving. She is preceded in her death by her parents, her
husbands, and eight siblings.
Cremation rites are being accorded. Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka,
Illinois is in charge of the local arrangements. No visitation of funeral
services are currently being planned. A private family interment is planned at a
later date. Memorial funds are being established for either the Henderson County
Humane Society or the Juvenile diabetes Association. To leave a condolence or
