He was born on September 4, 1970 in Kalamazoo, Michigan to David and Janice Hutchison Taylor. He married Margaret Reed on June 3, 2000 in Macomb.
He is survived by his wife Margaret of Macomb; two sons, Griffin and Drew Taylor of Macomb; His father and step-mother, Dr. David (Dr. Linda Stickney) Taylor of Muskegon, Michigan; his mother, Janice (Tony Mason) Taylor of Scotts, Michigan; two brothers, Mike (Sandy) Taylor of Macomb and Mark (Kerri) Taylor of Muskegon, Michigan; his in-laws, Dan (Nancy) Reed of Macomb; two brothers-in-law, Eric (Shannon) Reed of Macomb and Doug (Stephanie) Reed of Bloomington and nieces and nephews, Matt Taylor of Madison, Wisconsin, Brett Taylor of Macomb, Erinn Taylor and Patrick Taylor of Muskegon, Michigan, Grant Reed and Collin Reed of Macomb, and Bryce, Brennon and Addy Reed of Bloomington.
Andy received his Bachelor and Master’s degrees from Western Illinois University where he taught Fire Science. He coached Little League baseball and coached at the YMCA. He served on the Police and Fire pension board, was a member of the Western Illinois Leatherneck Club and several fire fighting professional organizations.
Chief Taylor was a 20 year veteran of the Macomb Fire Department, having been hired in October of 1996. He was promoted to Lieutenant and named the department’s Training officer in 2004. He was promoted to Captain of Operations in 2009. Taylor was appointed Fire Chief and had served with distinction, for 10 years, having been first appointed Chief in August of 2006.
He was a devoted husband and father. His passions included golf, Chicago Cubs, Green Bay Packers and he was always an avid Leatherneck fan. He enjoyed outings with his family, golfing, trips to Michigan and playing with his boys who were his pride and joy.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 3, 2016 at the Crossings Church in Macomb with Reverend Kelly Ingersoll officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, October 2, 2016 at the Macomb Fire Department. Cremation rites will be accorded following the services. Private burial of ashes will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the Andy Taylor Memorial Fund for his children’s education or the Macomb Fire Department.
