Glen G. Hoffman, 89, of
Galesburg, died at 6:44 p.m. Saturday, December 17, 2016 in the Knox
County Nursing Home.
He was born May 2, 1927,
in Galesburg, the son of Ted L. and Pearl I. (Terpening) Hoffman. He
married Shirley L. Stegall on June 27, 1947 in Piggot, Arkansas. She
preceded him in death November 8, 2011.
He is survived by two
daughters, Penny G. (Charles) Burdette of Knoxville and Patricia S.
“Patty” (Jerry) Pierce of Springdale, Arkansas; a son, Glen R.
“Rusty” (Robin) Hoffman of Springdale, Arkansas; 12
grandchildren; many great grandchildren; a brother, Robert (Ann)
Hoffman of Jacksonville, Illinois; and two sisters, Katherine “Kate”
Kelley of Knoxville and Martha (Jerry) Anderson of Galesburg. In
addition to his wife, Glen was preceded in death by his parents; a
son, Michael G. Hoffman in 2001; two brothers; and a sister.
Glen was a retired truck
driver of 40 years. He had worked for W.A. Jordan, Burlington Truck
Lines, and Central Steel and Wire of Chicago. He also was real
estate broker.
Glen graduated from
Galesburg High School and earned his real estate license through Carl
Sandburg College. Glen and Shirley wintered in Texas for many years
camping. Glen enjoyed flower gardening, bird watching, woodcarving,
working puzzles, square dancing, and spending time with his family.
Glen served in the United
States Army from 1945 to 1947 during World War II. He was a surgical
technician stationed in Germany.
Visitation will be 10 to
11 a.m. Thursday, December 22, 2016 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West
Galesburg Chapel. Funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Rev. Jim
Ecklund will officiate and military honors will be provided by VFW
2257/Legion 285 Veterans Honor Guard. Burial will be in Memorial
Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
