Vernon G. "Vern" Brentise, age 76, of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away at
10:38 AM on Thursday, February, 16, 2017 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in
Galesburg, Illinois. He was born on July 9, 1940 in Monmouth, Illinois, the son
of Vernon D. Long and Edna M. Brentise. Vern was raised and educated in Monmouth
and attended Monmouth High School. On September 6, 1958, he married Harriet
Janet Harris in Monmouth and she is surviving. Vern began employment at Wells
Pet Food in Monmouth, where he worked for 14 years. He then worked at Keister's
Tire Center in Monmouth and retired from there after a 28 year career. After
retirement, he worked as a substitute courier for Midwest Bank in Monmouth. Vern
was a longtime member of the Warren County Auxiliary Police for 17 years. He
love photography and in his younger years, hunting. Vern also enjoyed pistol
target shooting. Vern is survived by his wife Janet of Monmouth, IL, three
daughters; Terri (Chet) Hippen of Kirkwood, IL, Jean Crowl of Galesburg, IL, and
Toni (Fred) Brown of Monmouth, IL, five grandchildren; Nicole Brentise, Natalie
(Jeff) Cole, Justin (Meranda) Crowl, Jamey (Jennifer) Crowl, and Stephanie
Brown, seven great-grandchildren, one cousin, Rolland (Jackie) Brentise of
Monmouth, IL. There are three half-sisters surviving; Betty Frink of Rock
Island, IL, Marge Lubke of French Settlement, LA, and Diana Beall of Blue
Springs, MO. Vern is also survived by a special family friend, Kapody Johnson.
He is preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Rhonda Brentise.
As were Vern's wishes, cremation is being accorded. A Gathering of Family and
Friends is planned from the hours of 5:00-7:00 PM on Wednesday, February 22,
2017 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. A memorial fund is being established
for the Warren County Auxiliary Police or Western Illinois Animal Rescue. For
