Russell G. Barstow

Russell G. Barstow, 91, of Galesburg, Illinois died 3:25 p.m. Thursday, March 2, 2017 at Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville, Illinois.  He was born October 23, 1925 in Galesburg to Randall B. and Marie Blatchley Barstow.  He married Carlene Nichols April 22, 1951 in Galesburg.  She survives. 
 
Also surviving are three sons, Charles R. (and Marianne J.) Barstow of Algonquin, Illinois, William Nichols (and Julie Ann) Barstow of Irving, Texas and Randall G. Barstow of Geneva, Illinois, a daughter, Martha B. (and Jack R.) Ross of Normal, Illinois, Seven grandchildren, Allison Crutcher, Pamela Ringenberg, Crystal Kempf, Diana Barrett, Jonathan Barstow, Jessica Barstow and Daniel Barstow and three great grandchildren, Colin Ringenberg, Makenzi Kempf and Harley Barrett.  He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Bernard Barstow and Merle “Muzz” Barstow. 
 
Russell owned Chandler Hinchman Insurance Agency in Galesburg for 40 years.  He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1943 and Knox College in 1950.  He served in the United States Army as a First Sargent during WWII from 1944 to 1946.  He was a member of the First Christian Church in Galesburg.  He was a former board member of the First Illini Bank Corporation.  He was a member of Soangetaha Country Club, Galesburg where he was an avid golfer for many years.  Russell was on the Knox College Golf Team and Swim Team.  He was a past advisor for the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity at Knox College.  He was a member of Ducks Unlimited and an avid hunter and fisherman.  He was a Chicago Cubs fan. 
 
Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel.  Rev. M.J. Fitch will officiate.  Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Galesburg.  Visitation will be 12 Noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel.  Memorials in Russell’s name may be made to First Christian Church or the charity of the donor’s choice.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com
