James
Dale Harris, 72, of Galesburg, died at 10:47 a.m. Monday, April 17,
2017 at home.
Jim
was born June 7, 1944 in Galesburg, the son of David E. and Alice
Rice Harris. He married Bonnie Lee Ball on January 25, 1970 in
Davenport, IA. She survives of Galesburg. He is also survived by
one son, James B. Harris of Galesburg; one daughter, Tina L. Harris
of Kansas City, MO; step children, Dr. Linnea (Joe) Williams of
Kansas City, MO and Tracy ( Tony) Thierry of Galesburg. He is also
survived by eight grandchildren, Erin (Lorenzo) Pugh, Christopher
(Stephanie) Thierry, Andrew (Kira) Thierry, Nathan Thierry, LaKesha
Harris, Aileen Harris, Elias Williams, and Aiden Williams; three
great grandchildren, Amelia Harris, Anton Harris, and Jaxson Pugh;
along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Jim
owned and operated Harris Hauling for many years in Galesburg. He
has spent the past several years as a metal recycler. He was a
longtime active member of the Democratic Party. He was a Jeopardy
fanatic and enjoyed travelling. Jim had a great sense of humor and
loved talking with people. Most of all, he loved spending time with
his family. The family would like to send a special thank you to
Dennis Sibley for making Jim’s last day a great one.
Per
Jim’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and a memorial
service will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been
entrusted to Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.
The family asks in lieu of food and flowers memorial donations be
sent in Jim’s memory to Second Baptist Church or a charity of the
