Virgene Shake Seibert

Virgene Shake Seibert, 90, of Galesburg, left her earthly residence to worship at the feet of her Lord Jesus Christ at 5:58 p.m. Monday, April 24, 2017.

Virgene was born November 7, 1926, in Clayton, Illinois, the daughter of Theresa F. (Brierton) Shake and Dillard L. Shake.  Virgene’s education was a Clayton High School and Teletype, Telegraph, TV School in Omaha, Nebraska.  Virgene was employed at CB&Q Railroad yard office in Chicago in 1944 as a teletype operator and at Boys Town.  Later, she became secretary at five Church of God congregations, secretary at Anderson University Admissions Office, secretary in the Dean’s Office at Anderson School of Theology, and an active member of the Women’s Missionary Society.  She worked hand in hand with her husband, Bill, in the ministry.  Virgene was an avid reader and student, a daily writer of journals, and she was humbled by receiving the gifts of teaching and spiritual journal writing for the Lord.  Her interests were creative crafts, photography, sewing, and painting.

Virgene was preceded in death by her husband, William Peter Seibert from Park Place, Pennsylvania.  They were married June 21, 1945 in Sioux City, Iowa.  Virgene’s son, Billy Lamont Seibert (Brenda), preceded her in death March 14, 2014.

Virgene is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Ann Seibert (Dale) Judy of Knoxville, Illinois; six grandchildren, James Andrew (Vanessa) Brown of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Beth Ann McFarland of Galesburg, William Ross (Michelle) Brown of Monmouth, Zachary Beau (Tracey) Seibert of Columbia, South Carolina, Saul Gabriel (Kelly) Seibert of Columbia, and Magdalene Belle (Dale) Kellett of New Orleans; a dear friend, Donna Tripp of Galesburg; and 13 great grandchildren.

Celebration of her life will be 12:30 p.m. Thursday, April 27, 2017 at First Church of God, 1080 Harrison St., Galesburg.  Rev. Dennis McQuown will officiate.  The family will receive friends at the church 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday.  Burial will follow in East Linwood Cemetery.  Virgene’s legacy is the reflection of Jesus Christ’s love in her daily example, bringing about changes in the lives of those who loved her and others she never met, except through her writings.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to First Church of God.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors of Galesburg is handling arrangements for the family.  Online condolences may be made at their website, www.h-p-w.com.
