He was born July 23, 1935 in McDonough County near Adair, the son of
James T. and Elva D. Simmons Mason. He married Georgia L. Faught on
June 18, 1955 in Sciota at the Christian Church.
Charles is survived by his loving wife of almost 62 years, Georgia; one
daughter, Anita (Mike) Reese of Galena; two sons, Mike Mason of
Abingdon and John (Bonnie) Mason of Abingdon; 8 grandchildren and 8
great-grandchildren; one sister, Lucille Simpson of Bushnell; and
several nieces and nephews and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and two sisters.
He grew up in the Bushnell area and had lived in Abingdon since 1960.
He worked doing odd jobs for 10 years, the CB&Q Railroad for 7 years
and at Admiral/Maytag in Galesburg for 30 years, retiring in 1996. He
was also self-employed in yard care, helped his son-in-law at the
Victoria Tackle Shop for 8 years and helped Fred Zimmer for years at
Zimmer Farm Store in Abingdon. He enjoyed fishing all year long and
listening to old country music.
Graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, May 12, 2017 at the
Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Friday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel.
