Hiroko K. "Julie" Kobeyashi Mettler, age 84, of Macomb, Illinois and formerly
of Monmouth, Illinois; passed away at 5:50 pm on July 13, 2017 at the home of
daughter, Mark and Donna McCaw in Macomb, Illinois. Hiroko was born on March 14,
1933 in Tokyo, Japan. She was raised in Tokyo and met her husband, Donald Eugene
Mettler, Sr. in post-war Tokyo. Donald preceded her in death on June 1, 1997.
Hiroko was a long-time employee of Western Stoneware. She also worked at
Monmouth College. Her favorite past-time was family, Japanese food, and trips to
the casino. Over the course of her married life, she resided at various military
bases and ultimately resided in Donald's home town of Monmouth, IL. She is
survived by her two daughters, Donna (Mark) McCaw of Macomb, IL and Sandi (Mike)
Krechel of St. Louis, MO; three sons, Donald (Julie) Mettler, Jr. of Brookfield,
WI, Fred (Paula) Mettler of Murfreesboro, TN, and John (Gena) Mettler of
Monmouth, nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and her closest friend and
Japanese sister, Mickey Adam of Monmouth.
A funeral service will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, July 20, 2017 at Turnbull
Funeral Home in Monmouth with Rev. James Epperson officiating. The family will
receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until time of service Thursday at the funeral
home. Cremation will then be accorded. A memorial fund has been established for
