She
was born February 26, 1929 in Chicago, Illinois the daughter of Elgin
and Flora Belle Markley Everly. She married Robert L. “Stoney” Burke on
May 29, 1947 in Macomb, Illinois. He preceded her in death
on November 22, 2001.
She
is survived by her three daughters, Linda (Roger) Lamm of Galesburg,
Julie Burke of Galesburg and Karen Allen of Florida; five grandchildren,
Melanie (and Tim) Hasbrook, Michael Day, Jessica Myers, and
Tiffany Myers, ten great grandchildren, Haley, Alex and Cole Adams,
Collin Hasbrook, Connor and Chloe Day, Ashlyn Myers and Abrielle,
Alannah and Isiah Myers, a great-great granddaughter, Kynzley Adams and
special family members, Tom and Sally Day and Cynthia
Sullivan all of Galesburg. She was preceded in death by her parents, a
grandson, Robert Lee “Bobby” Myers and two great-grandchildren.
Margaret
was a very active and social person. She especially liked going to the
games, recitals and concerts of her grandchildren and great
grandchildren. She enjoyed attending trips and activities at the
Kensington, where she resided for the past two and a half years.
Margaret moved to Galesburg in 1950. She and her husband farmed east of
Knoxville for 14 years. The lived in Knoxville for 24 years. She
worked for Admiral in Human Resources and Galesburg
Midwest Credit Union for 30 years. She retired in 1988. She later
worked for Western Illinois Area Agency on Aging for 10 years. She also
worked for Four Seasons Clothing Store, Galesburg. She graduated from
Bushnell High School in 1946 and attended Lindonwood
College in Missouri. She served as officer at local and state level of
International Administrative Assistant of Professional Secretaries.
Margaret was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Galesburg where
she served on the Christian Education and Nurturing
Committee and with the M.O.P.S., Mothers of Pre-Schoolers
Organization. She was a member of the American Legion Post #749
Auxiliary in Knoxville and the Moose Lodge # 880 in Galesburg. She was
an avid golfer, playing in leagues at Laurel Greens and Windmill
Acres.
Cremation
will be accorded. Visitation will be 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July
22, 2017 at First Presbyterian Church, Galesburg. A memorial service
will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the church. Rev. Shawn Smith
will officiate. Burial will be in Bushnell Cemetery, Bushnell,
Illinois. Memorials may be made to Knox County Habitat for Humanity or
First Presbyterian Church.
