Joyce
M. Schisler, 81, of Galesburg and formerly of Abingdon, passed away at
7:20 p.m. Sunday, August 6, 2017 at Wellbrooke Nursing Home, Kokomo,
Indiana where she had been a patient since August 2, 2017.
She
was born April 10, 1936 in Bishop Hill, Illinois the daughter of Glenn
W. and Gladys Lindquist Heimer. She married Richard Cox in Abingdon and
they later divorced. She married Robert E. Blevins on November
24, 1978 in Abingdon and he preceded her in death on April 6, 1987.
She married Roger L. Schisler on November 18, 1999 in Abingdon and he
preceded her in death on September 15, 2000. She was also preceded in
death by her parents and one sister, Rita Litchfield.
Joyce
is survived by three sons of her first marriage, Randy (and Kari) Cox
of Galesburg, Jeff (and Jana) Cox of Sharpsville, Indiana and Steve (and
Kerry) Cox of Chatham, Illinois. Joyce’s nine grandchildren
include: Jenna (and Conrad) Schrock, Janel (and Corey) Littlejohn,
Zach Cox, Carter (and fiancé Allie Hull) Cox, Caleb (and Chelsea) Cox,
Randi Jo Cox, Jarod Cox, Camden Cox, and Cayden Cox. Joyce is also
survived by three great-grandchildren; two brothers,
William (and Barb) Heimer of Knoxville and Ronald Heimer of St.
Augustine; and one brother-in-law, Larry Litchfield of Eldon, MO. She
is also survived by stepsons, stepdaughters, step-grandchildren and
step-great-grandchildren.
Joyce
graduated from Abingdon High School in 1954. She had lived in Abingdon
most of her life. She worked at the Abingdon Pottery for 21 years in
the office of Human Resources until the Pottery closed.
She was a member of the Abingdon Christian Church and a former Sunday
school teacher. She enjoyed helping with the annual chicken pie supper
at the church. She was part of a group of ladies that made lap blankets
for nursing home residents.
As
Joyce requested, cremation will be accorded. Private burial of her
ashes will be in the Abingdon Cemetery. To celebrate her life, a
memorial service will be 11:00AM, Saturday, August 19th at the Abingdon
Christian Church. Rev. Darryl McDaniel will officiate. The family will
receive friends at a luncheon at the church following the memorial
service. Memorials may be made to the Abingdon Christian Church or the
